Yahoo Mail users furious over..redesign..wiped away features..left..looking like a Gmail knockoff

Yahoo Mail users are furious after the company debuted a major resign of the popular email service that eliminated many features and, some claim, left it looking like a knock off of competitor Gmail.

Observers say the 'beautiful' new look of Yahoo Mail is a product of new Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer - and it has backfired.

The mail service's 275million users were 'surprised' on October 8 with the redesign and tens of thousands have complained about glitches and reduced functionality. Many simply don't like the look and feel of the new product.

To change the background chose Themes under Folders. To change settings chose Settings under Folders. Both are in the Tools subgroup at the bottom of the Folders tab.

BRING BACK THE ‘56 CHEVY !

You would have a heart attack if John Rob came in here one day and completely changed the layout, appearance, and functions of FR.

That's essentially what's just happened to Yahoo mail. Millions of people around the globe use it, and overnight, it's like a brand new program that no one recognizes.

I can't tell you how frustrating it is - especially since we use it for business too.

Wow. I went to the Yahoo Feedback link you posted and there are literally tens of thousands of angry comments.

I’ve been reading there for about the last hour and haven’t run across a single positive comment about the new (and un-asked for) changes.

People are absolutely livid about Yahoo making such drastic changes to their email program without first consulting the users, or even giving them an option to try it out, or even the option to go back to the old layout.

To change settings chose Settings under Folders. Both are in the Tools subgroup at the bottom of the Folders tab.

The Settings controls are the same as they always were. There's nothing in there that allows you to reconfigure the page to how it was before Yahoo made these major changes a few days back.

The Yahoo user community is in complete meltdown over this. You ought to read the comments at the Feedback page. Folks sound like they want to see heads roll over this.

I don't like it either.

Try using "ctrl" "+" or "-" to change the text size. Maybe that will fit things better.

"When the women escape the kitchen it only has one outcome."

The thought did cross my mind that yet again, we see a female taking over as CEO of a major high tech corporation, and what's the first thing she does when she moves in?

Why, she changes everything, of course - and without any regard to her predecessor's successful (or unsuccessful) actions.

I know it's not just female execs who are guilty of 'new broom' syndrome. Lots of execs make that mistake. Especially in government. It almost always ends in disaster.

it doesn’t give the library of e-mail contacts

Your contacts are still there. They're just not located on a tab up top like they were before. Look in the column on the left hand side. You'll see them.

Ain’t wasting any time over this. Yahoo and its users are lazy. There are ways to get it back to mostly normal.

Even the feedback page is messed up. You cant vote on the problems and when you try to vent that doesnt go through either.

I tried to reply to an e mail in my inbox this morning and the reply function doesn’t work. Same with delete. This has been happening on and off for days now.

Good to read this informative post on FR. I though I had a bug in my computer because of the E mail glitches but now realize that the bug is Yahoo.

I hated yahoo mail so much before the redesign that I dumped it for gmail. Yahoo’s ads slowed everything down to a crawl and would sometimes freeze my browser. Gmail doesn’t do that.

I've stuck with Yahoo for personal and business email for over ten years now because of the mail site layout and functionality. I liked the ease of function and the intuitive layout of the folders, tabs, etc. I never noticed the ads slowing down the basic operation.

I never liked gmail because of the way it was formatted, which is very similar to the 'new and improved' Yahoo mail. I stayed with Yahoo because their mail program was put together so well, but if they don't change it back soon, I'm probably going to jump ship.

That's only partially true. The only way to change Yahoo mail at present, is to reconfigure it to the basic version.

Most users are aware of that, but it's not what they want. They want the previous version back (which was a helluva lot better than Yahoo basic, or gmail).

I've been reading lots of comments from paying customers at the feedback page -- every one of them furious about the changes. I'd say about 90% are using Yahoo mail for business, and this is hurting them badly.

Fortunately, my business usage is fairly simple. Just a business address and a gif signature. I'm not having any major issues at the moment (cross fingers).

Some of the business users there are claiming significant disruptions to their normal activities, which is costing them money. Yahoo had better hurry up and get their act together with this before they face a class action lawsuit.

I have a Yahoo account, but I use it only for Fantasy Football. As for Yahoo's Fantasy Football, they have totally ruined it in an attempt to mimic ESPN. Thousands of complaints have been logged against the new format with people demanding they put it back the way it was. Yahoo's response had basically been, "we're not changing it back so deal with it."

One of the dumbest marketing moves a company with majority market share can make is to mimic an inferior competitor. Coca-cola did it with its New Coke. Microsoft did it with Windows 7. And Yahoo did it with everything.
