Coach Rockne leads Notre Dame to gridiron greatness with star player George "The Gipper" Gipp.
Biography/1940
TCM, Knute Rockne, All American"
I own that movie on DVD. It is, in a nutshell, one of the most horrible movies ever made.
The guy that plays the coach in that movie is so bad that it becomes comical. All he can do is “yell and sound tough”. It was very difficult to get through the movie to the end.
Sunday at 12 noon? Going up against the NFL. Good luck. BTW it is a terrible movie. Bedtime for Bonzo is better.
But it was immortalized by Leslie Nielsen in “Airplane”.
“Win one for the Zipper!”
;^)
I must have read that book 100 times when I was a kid.
GO IRISH!
The last thing he said to me, "Doc," he said, "some time when the crew is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to get out there and give it all they got and win just one for the Zipper. I don't know where I'll be then, Doc," he said, "but I won't smell too good, that's for sure."
I don’t think much of Hollywood (and its USC rabble) making fun of a legendary athlete who died so tragically, so young, and yet so heroically, inspiring millions.
I loved every minute of it.
I don’t like seeing the Black Knights lose.
