ORIGINAL 1903A3 REMINGTON RECEIVERS – Perfect for a rifle building project! These are beautifully arsenal reconditioned original WWII receivers with original 1903A3 bolt handles. Both receiver and bolt are completely stripped(Includes the bolt body and extractor collar), ready to build into a rifle. 01 FFL required for purchase.
Anyone have a good idea of what the final cost would be to build a rifle with one of these? Assuming you're not buying some kind of exotic stock or barrel to go with it. Mainly just a rifle that would be true to the original.

Sarco has a parts kit for $149.95, but you still need a barrel and a stock
I don’t know if that’s a bargain or not but I just bought a fine looking Moisin Nagant at Cabela’s for $129.95. I’ve stripped the stock and am ironing out the dings. I’ll report back about what kind of shooter it is.

So now we’re up to over $300 with no stock or barrel.
Barrel will run you about 180 and the stock about 150. About $630 total...not that bad all things considered.
You need to understand, 1903 Springfields are $1K guns in complete, original condition. There’s really no comparison to a Mosin-Nagant, either, much as I like Mosins... the Springfield is a much better-finished, much more accurate rifle.
Those parts kits have a bolt and possibly other parts you don’t need unless you want an extra.
If you take your time and hit the gun shows used parts dealers and aren’t too picky about the looks of some of the parts but are willing to do the cleanup & polish, finish work yourself, you might be able to get away with another $500 if your lucky. That’s just my best guess from seeing prices on some of the used parts.
Sport would be cheaper if you don’t go all out on a barrel.
I saw one at a gun show for about $700 and was interested in buying it but didn’t really know enough about Springfield ‘03s to make a decision at the time. I know some of the earlier ones have receivers that are not properly heat treated and not safe to shoot (i.e. wall hangers).
You’re probably better off buying at $700 than trying to put one together.
I’ve got a low SR# WWI Springfield, never had a live round fired through it except possibly for testing.
My old man got it after WWII.
They were passed out to be used for the burial ceremonies after WWII.
I keep hearing that 03s are priced up in the stratosphere, but I keep seeing nice ones in original conditions moving in the $600-$900 range at local shops. Must be a regional thing.
And I would not say that there is no comparison between an 03 and a Mosin. The 03 is built to a higher standard of quality, but both guns are very effective in their intended roles. The casual 100-yard shooter will not notice much difference in performance between them,
