MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said Friday a 30-year-old man was burned in an explosion caused by marijuana refining.
The explosion happened about 12:50 a.m. Thursday at the Walker Terrace Apartments in the 13200 block of Heacock Street, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Holmes said.
When deputies arrived, the man was outside the apartment, suffering from burn wounds over his body, Holmes said.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment. Investigators later discovered his apartment contained a lab used to extract concentrated oil from marijuana, he said.
Investigators with the sheriff’s Drug Endangered Children unit responded, discovering four children at risk from the lab and the explosion, Holmes said. The current status of the children is not known yet.
Holmes said the man was not arrested, due to the severity of his injuries, but the case will be presented to the county prosecutor for further review.

The oil/THC is taken out in solution by a solvent for homemade hash. The solvent is then extracted or evaporated off. From I have read amateur cooks use something like Butane, extremely flammable. One stray spark without adequate ventilation and KABOOOM. Sort of like a half a$$ed Meth lab. It sounds simple but can be very dangerous. They really need a Mr White to do a good job.
He was making hash oil. It’s the most concentrated means of THC delivery.

Funny thing about vegetable oils, they burn real good if you get them hot enough. If he hadn’t been in such a hurry he could have let the sun do the job.
These marijuana refinery explosions are becoming more frequent. I think the smokeless electric cigarettes that are sold in “smoke shops” are used to smoke these refined marijuana products.
Huh. “Refined” indeed. Back in my day we’d smoke it just the way it was pumped from the ground.

I’ve heard that refining the marijuana oil gives you hashish...which can then be sold for a pretty penny.

The sad part is that he's going to CONTINUE smoking the stupid-weed and get dumber and dumber. He'll wind up on the welfare rolls being taken care of in some home.

They are, especially in states like Ca. As is the case with nicotine, the concept of "vaping" for getting your THC is an attractive idea. It's cleaner (no smoke), easier to consume in public places, etc.
