And so it begins the plentiful coverage of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of U.S. president John F. Kennedy. The date itself is weeks away and there will be countless commemorative programs, specials and copious punditry on TV.
JFK: The Smoking Gun (Sunday, Discovery, 8 p.m.) is one of the most controversial of the bunch. Made for the tiny U.S. cable channel Reelz, its a two-hour docudrama based on the book of the same name by former Australian police detective Colin McLaren. He claims to have spent years on the forensic cold-case investigation of JFKs assassination and says he believes he has found the smoking gun that killed the president. His conclusion is not the accepted story.

The bullet was not pristine...it was warped.
I disagree. Standing in that window was one of the most powerful experiences that proved to me the governement lies.
Connally never thought so.
Yep, and as Kennedy's limo turned onto Elm Street, Oswald's first shot was almost straight down into the limo as it passed by, but the tree branch deflected the bullet.
Here's a Youtube video of someone actually driving the route...note the X's on the road---those are the exact spots where Kennedy was hit. Also, note the street's curve.
There was a tv show that investigated the storm drain.
” Theres no way an ex-marine would have taken that shot. “
Really? A Marine that knows what an easy shot it would be, having unfettered access to a window on the route as published in the paper, having a rifle at the ready, knowing most people would be out of the building to watch the parade, knowing he probably would be caught and proven the hero to his communist heroes? That Marine? He was probably surprised he got away from the scene so easily.
I don’t see how you could stand in that window and not see what a simple shot it was. It was within pistol distance; rock throwing distance, literally.
“The idea that a secret service agent fired the final head shot is just stupid. “
It makes people feel smart that they understand something no one else in the entire world agrees with.
Another investigation said a shot hit the street light and another show said a shot hit the curb. Between all those, that goes with my theory that he was firing wildly.
“I disagree. Standing in that window was one of the most powerful experiences that proved to me the governement lies. “
Hyperbole, nothing more. Standing in the window shows how close and easy of a target a slow moving vehicle presented. They were doing about 10mph, jogging speed. A clear, easy, deliberate shot and Oswald got off three of them. Piece of cake for anyone familiar with rifles.
My husband agrees it was an easy shot but I still think that Oswald did not come up with the plan all by himself. He may or may not have been a lone gunman. He had others helping him. Whether it was LBJ or the Mafia or Castro or someone completely unknown, someone set it up for him and then Jack Ruby to wipe out Oswald so he could never tell.
I've stood at that window and I disagree. Oswald would have had to hang out the window to make that shot.
“Oswald would have had to hang out the window to make that shot.”
Where did you get that? It was a clear shot from the window.
The Commie did it, end of story.
I thought JFK was cleaning a gun in the book depository when it accidentally went off and killed him in the limousine.
Either that, or the French did it.
Or Mr. Plum in the Kitchen with a candlestick.
I see it as a spur of the moment event. Oswald saw JFK was coming to Dallas and the route had been published in the paper several days prior and the route took the motorcade right in front of his workplace on Elm Street. Some claim the Elm street turn was never published but that is because one paper did not publish the updated route and they quote that paper. However, several other papers, including one in Houston published the correct route as early as two days prior. Oswald was a nut that went so far as to travel to Russia and the Russian embassy in Mexico to offer his services as a spy or agent. He stood on street corners passing out pro-communist literature even after being harassed for it. He was a nut that wanted desperately to gain the attention of the Soviets. It was the height of the Cold War and he wanted to be in the limelight, not understanding that spies operate in the shadows and not in the limelight. I see perfectly that he jumped at the chance to shoot JFK that day. He didn't know if his plan would succeed. He didn't know if he would ever get the chance. He didn't even have an escape plan, or even a plan to dispose of his rifle; he left that behind some boxes. I don't think he thought for a second that he could just walk out of that building so easily. He hastily left, and due to the incompetence of the cops he was able to.
Here's a image of the Boston scene whereby the suspects had a shootout with these guys and...left. Weren't found until a citizen found one hours later.
missed him by that much...
good thing some citizen looked in their backyard
or these soldier-looking cops might have had to “invent” a suspect or shoot some dogs
So Kennedy had his head turned 180 degrees when the shot took place?
