There Should Be A Kitten Delivery Service In Every Town Across This Country
The Consumerist ^ | October 29, 2013 | Mary Beth Quirk

When our readers tell us they want more of something — in this case, stories about cats because who can ever get enough of those? — we listen. And we want that same listening spirit to extend to whoever might be able to set up a service that brings kittens to your door for some playtime and cuddly cat times in every town across this great country we call home.

As I type these words and you read them, there’s a magical event underway in Seattle, New York and San Francisco: To celebrate National Cat Day, car service Uber has teamed up with Cheezburger to bring kittens to the people.

Here’s how I Can Haz UberKITTENS works, as explained on Uber’s blog — it’s essentially a service that will bring you a bunch of kitten friends for a limited amount of time:

1. Download the Uber app for iPhone or Android
2. Between 11am – 4pm today, request the “KITTENS!” option via your app
3. If the furry friends are available, you and your buds will be enjoying 15 minutes of snuggles and cupcakes made by the famous Ace of Cakes, Duff Goldman and his team at Charm City Bakery.

The $20 is charged directly to your Uber account, and all of the proceeds will be donated to local shelters in each participating city, with the option to donate more as well as to adopt some of the kittens. That all depends on well those kittens snuggle, of course.

I don’t know why we can’t have this all of the time, everywhere, because it’s a win-win. A win for kittens because they get snuggled and a win for humans also because we get snuggled. Or at least batted at with tiny, adorable needle claws. So cute. Act fast though — kittens are limited. KITTENS.

Well, it is not recommended, although I have a friend who has 2 front de-clawed male cats who are not even allowed in the house at all.

This particular cat has never been allowed outdoors since he was found in the window well of his owener’s house as a tiny kitten. I’d have to acclimate him to the outdoors and figure out some way of installing a cat door. Unfotunately I live in Wisconsin where the houses do not lend themselves to cat doors — all of the entrances have storm doors, and the house is all brick. I do have a single door in my garage, but the door is steel. I don’t think it would be easy to cut a hole in it!

So, having an indoor cat means putting up with a litter box. If he’s a nice cat, it might be worth it. My last cat was a front de-clawed Rag Doll female that my husband found in my barn. She did not fare too well here and died a few years ago. I think she must have had kidney disease.

Picture will follow when I actully meet this cat! I’m told he’s “caramel” colored. I asked “Orange”? (Orange would have sealed the deal. Orange cats are the best cats.) “No,” the lady said, “lighter than orange, more beige.” Perhaps that is why his name is “Peanuts”. Maybe he’s peanut colored.

Orange cats are the best cats.

We think so too.

Yes. They seem to have a sense of composure.

With a male cat, it’s very easy to determine whether he’s been neutered.

Oh, she’s around...she swings by to watch me change their box, feed them, change the water, launder and arrange the blankets, monitor the heat, etc...

One of our three cats is an orange tabby. We love her to pieces, and she happily reciprocates those sentiments. She is definitely the most affectionate of our three.

Our other two are a tortoiseshell and a tortoiseshell tabby (and those of you who know your kittehs can probably guess what sex these two are!).

Before I read the post, the title has a great idea.

A kitten drop off! My daughter found an abandoned kitten in the woods last year. She was maybe three weeks old, this year she had four kittens, and is going to have some more any day. So I would love to have a place to drop off kittens. They are good mousers, and make great barn cats, but I have enough kittens. This one found kitten is going to cost me a ton in vet bills.

No pix...an all-black long-haired mother threw two kittens just like her, a fluffy gray one, and a blue or lilac-point Himalayan/Birman type...not sure where that last one came from...

Just a reminder to all those kitty lovers...if you have kittens never give them away for free. People use kittens for snake food and pit bull fights!!!

How exciting! Will you get him soon? We reluctantly acquired a cat in March, same theme, saving him from being euthanized. We have enjoyed it very much. He is male, front declawed, goes outside, due to he always did at his old home, neutered. I don’t know the age, but I think at least 5-6 years. He has a good life now.

Yes. I’ve had all colors of cats, including several decades of Siamese. But my favorite cat of all time was an orange and white stray Tom who moved in with us in 1965. (A can of tuna helped). Loved that cat! We lived next door to an all-orange Tom, and those 2 cats ruled the street. They got along with each other, but they kept the street clear of all intruders.

One time, mine tangled with a racoon and fell into the creek behind the house. He came home all slimy and muddy, and my husband had to give him a bath in the shower. He REALLY didn’t like it and yowled piteously while I sat on the floor outside the bathroom and cried in sympathy. When he came out, I was suprised at how small he looked with his fur all matted down with water. His tail looked like a rat’s. He hid behind the couch until his fur dried and then he came out and strutted around the room looking beautiful and purring with his sparkling white chest and orange back. He never needed another bath as long as he lived, thank goodness.

I had a kitty who I adopted who was declawed. She never got outside, but where I live it’s not safe for a cat to be outside, too many cars/ traffic.

I hope you and your kitty will have many happy years together.
