30,000? How about a thousand or less for most breeds. I doubt the Flintstones had a Chihuahua. (It was a little brontosaurus, wasn’t it, named Dino?)
Terriers from Scotland. Rotties from Germany. Bulldogs and bird dogs from England. All bred for specific purposes. Artificial selection, and over centuries, not millennium or epochs. Your point is well taken.

I was trying to be generous. My point being species can change and evolve to suit needs and conditions.
