Prohibition was one of the most outlandish, and most influential periods in all of American history--and Henry Rollins is going to reveal just how strange it got. From Al Capone's deep, dark family secret and weird D.C. monuments still standing today, to the crazy and sinister things our government did to get average Americans to stop drinking, you won't believe what Henry's dug up.
a I'm guessing that one of them is that it wasn't illegal to DRINK liquor...just illegal to sell it.
Another one would be that the passage of the income tax amendment made Prohibition possible. Since the Federal government derived a sizable sum of revenue from the liquor excise tax, people didn't believe they would ever prohibit alcohol sales. This was true UNTIL the income tax amendment gave them another source of revenue.
Anyway, will be watching it in a few minutes since Prohibition is a favorite topic of mine in history.

FALSE, there are still dry counties and even dry neighborhoods where you are permitted to drink your own bottle and cannot buy beer/wine/liquor OR where you may still purchase a “membership” to drink wine from the menu at a restaurant/club.
The key thing to remember is that Prohibition was “the law of the land” and therefore no one could ever say anything against it or hope to change it.
2- This could never happen again, at least without another constitutional amendment
FALSE we are seeing 24 ounce sodas outlawed, 0.08 DUI standards (being pushed down to 0.03), prohibitions on smoking tobacco even within your own home, etc. All at the local level (sometimes driven by the Federal government).
Good thing it wasn’t illegal to drink it.

It continues to be illegal to make one’s own distilled spiritous liquor (like corn likker for example)— beer and wine for self consumption, that’s OK. But no amount of corn likker may be made. Such is the revenoors control post prohibition. The Puritans and do-gooders came up with income tax (think of how good that is for the poor) and it’s “progressivism” to give them the opening for another butt-inski, to stop people from drinking (for their health and societal stablility— brought on by Carrie Nation and other boring dried up pontificators. In the middle of the Depression, taxes went up, more people out of work and miserable and voila! FDR frees up the booze to get the booze tax and KEEP the income tax for a damned WAR. Both sides complete utter liars.

In NC to drink in a club— one must “join” the club as a member. How ridiculous is that. Further, the bars are supplied their brand alcohol through a state warehousing system that buys the booze, ships it to county Alcohol Beverage Control Board for distribution to the clubs and/or sale in ABC state stores. The “profits” earned in each county for this graft ridden monstrosity, are directed to the schools. So, one could say the county with the most hard alkie drunks have the best school funding— just not the brightest students with parental role models and all. Truly an amazingly moronic system. On the other hand in New Orleans convenience stores have hard liquor groaning on the shelves and all over the place.
I hear that if you drink enough water, you can become “drunk”. I’ve never experienced this myself.
I’ve also heard that if you drink a half a bottle of tequila (better grade), you eventually attain a level of “clarity” with it (not like LSD but still a different level), although there is probably an extended period of acclimation to the intoxicant to attain that “clarity”.
I wouldn’t advise it.
