Some 25 students participated in a sit-in at the University of California at Los Angeles after a professor corrected the capitalization, grammar and punctuation of a minority student's paper, the Daily Caller reported Tuesday.
Members of the group "Call 2 Action: Graduate Students of Color" organized the sit-in and said the mere act of correcting a black student's paper was “micro-aggression.”
“A hostile campus climate has been the norm for Students of Color in this class throughout the quarter as our epistemological and methodological commitments have been repeatedly questioned by our classmates and our instructor,” the group told the college in a statement. "[The] barrage of questions by white colleagues and the grammar ‘lessons’ by the professor have contributed to a hostile class climate.”
Val Rust, a professor of education and information, was the official target of the sit-in, the Daily Caller said. Half of his class -- five students -- participated in the protest.
The group also had other issues with the college they say went beyond Rust's class.
"What we're speaking to is part of a larger, institutionalized culture on campus,” Kenjus Waston said. According to Inside Higher Ed, Waston is a black Ph.D. candidate and an organizing member of UCLA Call 2 Action: Graduate Students of Color.
The statement issued by the group accused the instructor of correcting “perceived grammatical choices that in actuality reflect ideologies” and “repeatedly questioning the value of our work on social identity and the related dynamics of oppression, power and privilege.”

Pretty sure it’s not.
What irked me the most is the prof apologized instead of simply stating that some students were not sufficiently educated to belong in college. Their illiteracy is not his racism.
People who get doctorates in education are usually state employed careerists looking for a maximum pay grade. Generally such degrees are not indicative of genuine intelligence or creativity.
Why does “Student of Color” get caps, but “white” is lower case?
At the same time, these are graduate students in education. Those of us in the Engineering graduate school had a number of uncomplimentary (and accurate) observations regarding the academic prowess of Ed majors.
And don't even get me started on our opinion of journalism students.
When the pushback begins, it's going to get ugly real fast.

Why is Waston seeking a Ph.D. anyway?
Isn't he smart enough to understand the hermeneutics of his situation? The Ph.D. itself is a reactionary, heteronormative tool of the bourgeois white establishment ruling class slavemasters that has been designed with the genocidal intention of keeping people of color under control. Well it’s college, they don’t have to be there and if they can not work up to the level required they should receive failing grades. Once again liberals want to rewarded for failure receiving the same grades as those that are actually capable. I guess they want to be able to keep teaching minorities to fail.
