Sheriff's detective Jeff Maag told People magazine the driver "was doing well over 45 [mph] [it's] fair to say at least twice that."
That means Maag believes Rodas was going at least 90 mph on a street where the limit was just 45.

At least he didn’t burn alive.
Gee that's tough. My sympathy indicator just zeroed out.
Didn't the car he was driving cost north of $400K?
Kind of ironic that a man who made a living going fast and a man who made a living staring in movies about going fast both die in a car going too fast.
- Life can be hard for some people
- It is a lot harder if you choose to be stupid!
I estimated 85 mph 3 days ago...
Just missed it....
Who is Paul Walker?
One of the worst things I have ever seen was a wreck at LeMans. It was a long time ago and the film was B&W. The car had a magnesium body for weight savings and the wreck was not that bad but it began to burn.
One of the French officials immediately jumped out of the woods with a fire extinguisher. At first he began trying to put out the fire but as soon as he moved the extinguisher the fire would jump back up. He then kept spraying the driver and another couple of people at first tried to pull him out but the fire was too hot.
Eventually several people arrived with extinguishers but it was hopeless the car just burned fiercely until it consumed everything.
“One of the worst”???
That’s completely horrible!
- good post
- whatta role model for youngsters!
- there are race tracks and drag strips where you can play - or go PRO racing with a degree of safety and sanity
- at least pick a straight thruway and forget the ego
- i would know
- Walker chose to commit suicide

Who is Paul Walker?
- Mercedes Benz SLR in the mid 50’s at LeMan?
I read a newspaper report that said that he anonymously bought an Iraq vet a ring for his fiance that he overheard in a jewellers.
Yeah, he was stupid to be driving that fast, but it is still a shame that he died.
Good news is he didn't take anyone else with him.
James Dean did the same thing back in 1955.
Little known fact: traveling with Dean (in another car) that day was Bill Hickman, who's the guy who was driving the black Dodge in the famous chase sequence in the movie Bullitt. Hickman was the actual driver during the sequence, and appears on-screen; he's the guy with black hair and glasses.
I don’t remember what the car was but that may have been it.
The people trying to rescue him performed heroically and you could see how disturbed they were when they couldn’t get him out. There was just no way to save him. I think they all got burned a bit themselves.
Since ya posted to the thread, ya might wanna read the article...I had no idea either until I read about the incident.

Yep, John Wayne said that.
Fast and Flattened....
I think he was a Christian and he did a lot of charity work.
