Made me sad for what’s happened to women in rock since then, now they’re pretty much just cookie cutter divas and the casual listener can’t even tell one from the other.

Things go in cycles. And yeah, it's cookie cutter divas now.

I saw a British article that tallied how many of the top performers now are solo or duets. The "group" sound is not buzz worthy these days. Media is focused on "celebrity", not assemblages. George Martin marketed the Beatles as 4 distinct personalities. Initially he wasn't even a fan on their music.

Aye. Never much of a looker. But she was a bad ass. And, yes, I know a complete leftist tool. Still LOVE her though. Had them playing on my phone as I went running this AM as a matter of fact.

None of it is helped by the fact that as music sales drop the industry gets less fond of experimentation (which of course is exactly the wrong move), we forget now because so much of it became so popular but New Wave was throwing a lot of sounds out there that nobody had done before. Probably the labels aren’t fond of the potential “drama” that comes with bands either, solo acts rarely have interview wars in the press or breakup in the middle of their sales peak.
