Absolutely Essential: Terms limits, including judges.
Essential: ALL laws sunset (no more than 25 years). They may be passed again, but otherwise they expire.

Yes I agree with term limits and the limit on a the length a new law is enforceable, but I would limit them all to 10 years only.
And I like the idea from aimhigh, that the government shall not create, impose or collect any tax that is not approved by 75% of the states.
All Federal programs must be approved by 75% of the states at least every 10 years.
So basically a federal referendum where all citizens would have top approve. Difficult in 1776, but not so today.

I may be wrong, but I think the Founders gave Federal Judges “lifetime” appointments to make them immune to short-term public or political pressure.
Their intent was good, but we should amend to where any Federal Judge’s appointment be required to be approved by 2/3 majority by both House and Senate and give better outline to specifics of Judges impeachment.
