A question came up about demons, spirits, etc. on why they seem to be more prevalent in 3rd world countries? One of the thoughts was that Satan doesn't need to be so “in your face” to turn us Americans away from God as there are already so many other gods that we worship that distract us.

The big 1st world idol is materialism. Stark supernatural experiences would introduce rivals to that idol.
