...in a show fraught with numerous problems... The biggest of which is that NBC drew its largest Thursday night audience in five years by showing wholesome family entertainment.
...Karath tweeted during the show.
What's this?
Is this going to be the new expectation of "professional" on the Broadway stage? Tweeting by the performers to the audience DURING the performance?
What happened to staying focused on your part/job/role/assignment until it was done, and then go out to play with others?

Im sure the LATimes critic just hated it because none of the children were openly gay. Yep. I'm sure the Times hoped that the remake would be more politically correct, and it wasn't. During the entire production Maria did not even once mention how much she admired FDR's New Deal.
And at the end, the family once again fled fascism instead of embracing it.

Julie Andrews gave Carrie her blessing before it aired. Who cares what Kym Karath thinks.

But hey, they DID give an openly black Austrian nun a key role... (snicker... as if!... wonder how many black nuns there really were in Austria back then...) I'll bet there was at least one person that considered giving Beyonce the title role.

You’re heartless, Ben!
Oh well... I’ll soothe myself after your harsh statement like so:
“When the dog bites
When the Ben stings
When I’m fee-ling bad...
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feeeeeel... soooooo.... sad.”

I didn’t see it, but I think it’s a wonderful thing to perform this musical live, particularly given its pro-family and family-friendly subject matter. Julie Andrews was amazing, but she can no longer perform. I respect Carrie Underwood for taking this on, especially since she must have known that she was going to be compared to such an talent. Good for her.

The problem is the Von Trapp family. They want Ann Hathaway! But the public doesn’t appear to have a problem.

These people were horrified that a country artist would be hired to play Maria. The last being Marie Osmond on the national touring company in 1994-1995.

I was in Austria in 1985. I don’t think that I saw a single black person while there.

“...Ill have to take your word for it.”
I don’t know if you are kidding, or not, but if you haven’t seen it, please do.
One of the best opening scenes in all film, right up there with the opening of West Side Story.
Yes, I love musicals.

It’s silly to mess with perfection.
The original “Sound of Music” is perfect.

"Mean people need Jesus"

Isn't this the girl that did the song about trashing her boyfriend's new truck because she thought he might possibly be cheating on her? I can't express how revolting that song is, and any sympathy I might have had for her went away the moment I heard that trash.

I don’t usually watch musicals either but she did a great job and has a great voice.
We both thought that this would expand her appeal to those that don’t listen to Country music.
