VALENCIA (CBSLA.com) — Thousands of people are expected to show up for an unofficial tribute Sunday near the site where Paul Walker and Roger Rodas died in a fiery single-vehicle collision last weekend.
The unsanctioned mid-day memorial rally and car cruise, organized by fans, will take place near the crash site on Hercules Street.
One week since the fatal crash, crowds continue to gather at the growing memorial. Sheriff’s deputies have parked along the street and erected cones to help control traffic near the site, which remains inundated with candles, flowers and cards.
Deputies are expecting the largest crowds to date Sunday. More than 7,000 people have RSVP’d to attend the event on Facebook.
The memorial is scheduled to run from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Many visitors came to the crash site Saturday because they could not attend Sunday’s unofficial memorial.
“Our first date together together was to the first “Fast and the Furious” movie at Citywalk the week it premiered,” said one fan from San Diego, who came to the memorial Saturday night because she is scheduled to work Sunday. “So it just kind of holds a special place in our heart.”
The Sheriff’s Department has put up signs warning of traffic delays. Beginning at 10 a.m., a stretch of Kelly Johnson Parkway near the crash site will become one-way, and westbound traffic on Constellation Road and Alta Vista Avenue will be halted, except to access local businesses.
Organizers are asking fans to be respectful and obey traffic laws.
Many local businesses have blocked off their parking lots, but North Park Community Church is offering its lot and restrooms to the public.
Fan Arbil Panelo told KCAL9′s Cristy Fajardo he plans to attend regardless of the traffic and parking constraints.
“I met Paul last month at a Formula Drift,” Panelo said. “I just gave him a handshake and that was it, and next thing you know he’s gone.”
Unreal and pretty pathetic. How about a tribute to these guys instead of some pretty boy who promoted car racing on public streets?

Here we have military heroes getting killed in gawd-awful places like Afghanistan in the name of freedom and people forget about them while worshipping some two-bit actor.
Call me a cynic but I suspect this and “candle light vigils” are nothing but attempts to get one’s face on the hoped for 6 o’clock news..........

This isn’t real mourning. It isn’t even praying for the dead. It’s seizing on the death of a celebrity for the purpose of wallowing in cheap sentiment—and feeling like part of something “important.” (Celebrity.) Like the Diana hysteria.
Two guys died while speeding. Sad.
I think it was pretty nice of Barry to fly the flags at half mast all weekend for Walker.

Seriously, how miserable are your lives that you have to slander a fellow Christian, family man, and all around good guy? Way to really prove your point about supporting former and current military. Makes me want to get right up and hold a candle light vigil at the Walmart wall of honor. Do you always stand on others graves to promote your causes? How Christian of you!
Walker was loved and respected by the entire automotive community. DESPITE him being famous, he was kind, respectful, giving, and humble. Basically the total opposite of everything you little trolls hate about Hollywood and complain about constantly. Walker does deserve to be celebrated. While most people lose their way when they gain fame and fortune, Walker did the opposite.
BTW, Walker bought a $9000 ring for a military couple that couldnt afford it. What did you do?

My niece died on November 4, 2013 at the age of 54, leaving behind two daughters aged 17 and 22.
There was no call made to the local media by our family announcing a "candle light vigil" in order to get our faces on the local TV channel.

I don't give a rats ass about Mr. Walker, he was no more important to my family (or the world for that matter) and the enormous numbers of the community who showed up to pay their respects to her than some hollywood dude who happened to be famous...........
As I said before, this is nothing but media hype and anyone who shows up for the filming is there solely to get their faces on TV...........

From what I have been reading about him, Walker seemed like a stand up guy.
Its s shame that his life ended the way it did. He did more than most to help people.
