I’ve been wondering... Is there any TV still available “over the air”. In other words, if you still have an old analog TV, is there some kind of antenna that pulls in anything, without having cable, dish, etc? Just curious.
So what? You cannot watch them unless you pay.
Fading back and forth to HD is a problem I have with Netflix. Seems to be a function of how many people are using the service at one time. Sort of like to many people taking showers in the same house at the same time.
Hulu and CBS.com take ads for Plan B abortifacients. So we just do discs, websites , and YouTube. Amazon prime might be a good deal.
Ditched cable 10 years ago and didn’t look back. Had a Canadian dish to watch hockey and curling for ten years. Now that there’s more curling content on the net these days, I have no use for the dish.
Can’t wait for the day of Google Fiber (1GB upstream and downstream) to come to Omaha. When that comes into play (not to mention ultra high speed wireless), cable and dishes will become relics of the past.....IMHO.
Also, say goodbye to the land line. Cell phones and skype will suck up that market.
There are plenty of channels "over the air", but they are all digital now. You'd need a digital converter box to watch them on an analog TV.
We did this about a month ago.

We ditched the cable cord over 5 years ago.

Aereo.com (We live in the Atlanta area and get local channels for $8 a month. Not available in all cities.

There are many other websites you can try. Anything on TV can be found on the web. If you watch any site on the internet, Malwarebytes is your friend.(Thank you Al Gore)

To use these I recommend a download program, a host manager, a video play program; and pop-up and ad blockers.
I use Orbit, Host Manager, and VLC. There are other good programs.
Of course your security programs should be up to date.

“Lilyhammer” and “Mr. D” and “Black Mirror” are a few good foreign English language shows that can only be seen on the link sites AFAIK.
Unless you are willing to go to some of those shady sites, which I’m not, there are some you can’t find. I looked high and low for “person of interest” when I missed an episode and never could find it.
They’re idiots, if I had a TV show I’d make sure to stream it. If it was a broadcast show like POI I’d have commercials on it.

Great tip. I ditched DISH about 5 months ago. Still getting used to it, love the minimal commercials. Are there sports fans out there getting programming without cable or sat?

Yes, emphatically yes! I quit satellite a year or two ago. There are more digital channels over the air than there used to be analog channels. You need a digital tv to see them, of course — which, I believe, all tvs are now — or an analog tv with a digital converter box.
I have an old indoor powered antenna, rabbit ears (about $20 or $30), and am near Columbia, SC, a medium-sized city. (A non-powered antenna wasn’t good enough.) I receive free — supported by advertising — over-the-air hd transmissions of NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, three educational channels (including PBS), two retro or vintage channels (old tv shows), a couple of old movie channels, a Spanish-language channel, a programming-for-blacks channel, several weather channels, and a religious channel (and maybe some more — I don’t have them all enabled on my tv). Also, I find many tv shows and old movies on the net.
The main thing I miss is access to some of the ESPN broadcasts. Through my ISP I can see ESPN2 and ESPN3, but I can’t see ESPN broadcasts live, only later in rebroadcasts on ESPN3. On the whole, though, I’m pleased with what’s available. It’s nice not having to pay monthly bills for cable or satellite.
Spend $90 on a Roku3 and sign up for Netflix. Get the cable and satellite TV companies out of your life. CNN, msnbc, cnbc...these companies hate you. If you are paying for cable or satellite TV you are putting money in their pockets every month whether you watch those channels or not. Cut. Them. Off.
I ditched the Comcast internet a year ago and went to cheaper Frontier FIOS.
Ditched the spendy Comcast package for a basic at 23 bucks per month.
Stream Netflix through a Tivo. My only problem is I cannot get SyFy on basic Comcast I can watch full seasons on my Tivo,but not until released to Netflix

As well as some local channels from nearby cities. Maybe its just the way its routed around here, but I learned about it from a friend at work who learned from a relative in another area and it works for all of us. Good luck.
