A Conyers woman is dead after a hair-weave purchase turned into an armed robbery Wednesday night.
A news release from the Rockdale County Sheriffs Office said Christina Menzies, 19, of Covington, arranged to meet with a group to buy hair weaves. The two parties met around 10 p.m. at a subdivisions pool in Rockdale County.
RCSO deputies were told that a group of people came out the bushes toward the victims vehicle. One of the assailants pointed a handgun at the victim, and there was an exchange of gunfire. Christinas sister, Jennifer Menzies, 21, of Conyers, was shot, the release said.
According to the news release, Christina left the subdivision in a vehicle with Jennifer, and they were stopped by an RCSO deputy on Ga. Highway 138. The deputy called for an ambulance for Jennifer.
Jennifer was transported to the Rockdale Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Deputies arrested Christina Menzies and charged her with making false statements and being a party to armed robbery.
Jaquan House, 20, of Conyers, was also arrested and charged with armed robbery. House was arrested near the subdivision after law enforcement put out a "lookout" for a suspect.
The RCSO is searching for two more possible male suspects. In addition, the U.S. Marshals Service Southeast Regional Task Force is involved in the search.
More criminal charges may be filed, the release said.

(Conyers GA is about 25 miles east of Atlanta on Interstate 20.) I thought everyone met by the pool at 10pm on a cold winter night to buy hair weaves? Well, I haven't exactly done it but hey, I'm a homebody. I understand its all the rage with the Amish now!

This article is yet another testament to the level of illiteracy that permeates “journalism” these days.I had to read through it 2 or 3 times before I realized that the girl that got shot was one of the robbers, rather than the victim of the robbery.

What a coincident. All my hair weave transactions also take place about 10:00 p.m. at subdivision pools.

In any event, I would probably opt to bring along some sort of personal protection plan to any nighttime residential poolside business transaction - with or without the presence of someone named "Jaquan" - involving hair weaves. Color me paranoid.
