200MPH On A Texas Toll Road, In a C7 Corvette
The Truth About Cars ^ | 12/17/2013 | Jack Baruth

Posted on 12/17/2013 12:51:07 PM PST by nascarnation

In what he claims is a first-ever trip to 200mph by a tuned C7, JH “tests” the Ez-Tag system by blowing past it at more than double the already-enthusiastic 80mph toll-road speed limit. Interestingly enough, the factory speedometer in the LCD display appears to be dead-on accurate.

“The road is smooth as silk, easy-breezy,” Hennessey indicates, in a phrase that will no doubt launch at least a dozen imitators.

I was 18, just out of HS and was in Germany for the Bayreuth Festival. Family had a Mercedes 300E... and I was allowed to drive on the Autobahn... I maxxed out at 205 km/h. I was a kid and boy was it a white knuckle ride. I had Lamborghinis and Porsches flashing their lights wanting to overtake me. I slowed down and got back in the slow lane where I belonged.

Imagine it hitting a good sized bird!

An engineer I worked with used to live in Texas, and he crested a rise one night doing 110-120 to a cow starting out into the highway. He impacted it’s head with the right front headlight and fender assembly and said it was like a bomb had gone off in that area.

He had a turkey vulture come through the windshield on another tear through the emptiness. Aside from being lucky he didn’t get killed by it, he noted that it was just about the grossest thing had ever happened to him, “The insides of them make the outsides look and smell good”...

I had an Intrepid as a rental car for a long weekly job drive for a while. First trip out, was going to keep up with a vette that passed us, and thought I’d blown the engine when I hit ~109. THAT was a surprise to say the least... Was a fun as hell car to drive though.

The first and only live one I ever saw in Texas was about .02 of a second before impact in my ‘84 TransAM. LOL

Saw LOTS of dead ones, like whistle pigs in VA.

My best friend and I had a habit of sneaking out late at night and tooling around in the wee hours of the morning when we were in high school. One night we had the luxury (not sure about the permission aspect) of taking his sisters turbo Shelby Daytona out. I was in the passenger seat, and i’m still not sure exactly what we hit, but i know it was past 140 and damn close to 150 on I-70 here in MO near Eureka. I remember getting pushed back in the seat, and the white dashed lane lines turning into solid ones. I really trusted that guy. It’s a rush going that fast when you’re behind the wheel and in control; but its a whole other feeling when you’re just hangin on and contemplating mortality. I’ll never forget that night.

Vette purists did’t like the end of the speed brake headlights with the C-6. Try the C-7 Z51 on. You might like the fit.

The C-7 is designed to handle these speeds. However, my heart is no longer up to the task.

I've seen those, (awesome) but isn't the punchline that they are supposed to be thawed? :-)
