I thought it was a bit excessive too. It means there’s a lot more artistic license needed, which gives Peter Jackson the opportunity to constantly insert his favored type of scene: outrageously dramatic bordering on the impossible.

If he wants to do another set of movies based on JRRT, I would suggest The Silmarilian. There’s almost no limit to the number of them which could be based on it.

That and the Book of Lost Tales were the hardest and most satisfying reads I have ever done.

Understanding the Middle-earth Genesis really adds an extra dimension to LOTR.

In college I could write and read Elvish but, sadly, I lost that and can only understand a few words and runes...
