Ok I finally bought a Tv. Bought it through Amazon and took out Amazon Prime. So far not impressed, difficult to navigate through the DVD player with no way to input what I want. Not impressive films that I can see and the new films are charged to my account. I am on their free thirty day trial.

Input folks?

What do you use for streaming? I do plan on getting Netflix mailed to me, but what else is there out there. So far I have a Blue Ray HD player, a sound system and tv. Do I need to hook up computer too?

Your thoughts?

I watch occasional TV, and wear earmuffs for streaming.

That way, I don’t make a mess of the pillow when my brains stream out my ear.

:-)

Timewarner is offering 16mb for $35/month here in Southern California. Enough to stream several shows at once. many free programs to watch.

You can use a laptop or windows 8 tablet, plug in a hdmi cable or better yet use wifi if the tv has it. Use it as a remote. Open Firefox browser and multiple tabs for the different sites that have tv or movies you want to watch. You can have multiple streams of shows running if you like to have multiple shows to watch at the same time. Kinda like your tv now.
If you use an android tablet you have to go into settings to allow 3rd party installs like Flash. Using Windows pc you may have to go into the Display settings and extend the desktop then drag the browser to the tv set.

Netflix
Amazon
HULU
Pandora
Crackle
Youtube

I just switched from Blockbuster for DVD & BluRay discs to NetFlix to get more streaming titles. I stupidly thought they had their entire catalog available for streaming...little did I know that maybe only 5% of their catalog can be streamed. I’ve got the one-disc at a time option, too.

We’ve been Amazon Prime subscribers from long before they tossed in free video streaming. We bought Prime to save on shipping fees, so the video streaming was a bonus. The content library is just so-so. The UI is just plain awful and clunky.

My favorite is Apple TV — best encoding quality, best UI. But buying TV seasons for $20 to $40 is a killer. Also, I ran out of storage space on my 5 year old MacBook Pro, so had to offload already-watched videos to an external 1 TB drive. I use TuneSpan for that. It is a SUPER utility that seamlessly splits your iTunes library across multiple drives.

A good friend is an exec at Roku, but I don’t have their box yet. I’ve got streaming on the Panny TV, on the BluRay player, on the Tivo, and on the Apple TV. Really don’t need another streaming device.
