NFL could reschedule Super Bowl in case of snow
Newsday ^

NFL officials are ready for all contingencies related to Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium. Even if it means staging the game on a different day. Possibly even a different week.

Although every Giants and Jets game has been played as scheduled at MetLife Stadium and Giants Stadium -- going all the way back to 1976 for the Giants, to 1984 for the Jets -- officials have plans in place for a weather event that could change the day of the game from its scheduled Feb. 2 date.

Went to Lambeau a week and a half ago. Game time temp was 13 and it was snowing. The stands were completely full and the game was played.

Bring that Super Bowl to the home of the Lombardi trophy and we will show the NFL how to handle it!

Bruno Mars is popular with the Gen-Xers.

I think you mean Millennials (Gen Y).

it’s not about the play in the elements…….it’s about the ticket holders and the sponsors and the very expensive halftime show…etc…..

Has nothing to do with the play….

You really think the stands are full in Lambeau with no Packers in it?

Roger Goodel is the Obama of league commissioners. His intent is utter destruction.

And I remember that when you were a young kid, the NFL was a minor sports diversion…..

I guess in the near future they will be playing touch football and there will be now winners or losers so that nobody will feel rejected.

It’s all about money for the owners and that their $100,000,000.00 dollar players don’t hurt themselves.

From what I read, Danica Patrick is doing a Super Bowl ad with a bunch of topless men. She is some sort of "buff" outfit to match their muscle. The Super Bowl is no longer the game I remember from the 1970s.

Flag for the next generation. Eventually, the physical aspect will end the game as w know it.

I remember a Steeler game back in the 1970s where it was snowing so hard, the yard lines were obliterated

It was like that in the Eagles/Lions game in Philly on 12/8. They kept coming out with snow blowers whenever there was a break to uncover the yard lines. The refs allowed time for a thorough cleaning of the goal line during a goal line stand. Great game and the snow made it very interesting.

I think when they say snow, they are talking about a blizzard.

Doesn't stop the Green Bay Packers.

Think I'll just stay home in my plaid pajamas, sipping cocoa, and dreaming of Obamacare while listening to Broadway show tunes.

When people start laughing at the NFL, they’re in trouble.

‘Tis true that football was a minor sport when I was a young kid; however, what I posted said: “as a young person.” I.e., young adult, pre-Super Bowl, but not by much.

So minor then was football then that a family joke for decades was about my younger sister returning from a neighbor’s New Year’s party and, knowing somehow that it *meant* something, told us “Whitey Piddle” was there! We figured out she was referring to Y.A. Tittle.

Those games played in the bitter cold and blinding snow constituted a reason football became so popular that the Super Bowl phenomenon was able to develop. It might not work for the all-important half-time show.

Minor, compared to where it is now. Whitey Piddle is a cute, but its only anecdotal. Fans, especially those in attendance, largely do not want a Super Bowl game that is dominated by the weather. Yes, it’s fine to have memories of some of these great moments in awful weather….and there are some…..including this years Philly Detroit game in 5-6 inches…...but that’s because they stick out and are NOT the norm. People do NOT want that as the norm by and large.

Certainly there is an admirable toughness to the teams that can win those games, but people would rather see long pass plays and skill being exhibited….for all the talk about people caving the violence and the big hits, most highlights involve someone running with the ball a long long long way without being hit.

Just sayin….

I would submit that snow games are fun, and they are, because they are the exception…..and for the ultimate prize, people want the skill, and not the elements, to decide the outcome.

But I think the main consideration for this is NOT the play per se….it’s all the other anscillary parts to the Super Bowl…..the fans, the traffic, the halftime, etc etc.

Fans don't get to attend the SB..I think each team maybe gets 10k seats max..and consider that the average NFL stadium holds 75k...it's party..and the beautiful people get to be seen.

The big news is NO tailgating is allowed..and limos aren't allowed to drop people off..if you don't drive, and park..theee are only 15k spaces...then you have to pay $50 top take a bus..
