You likely hear it every day. And if it bugs you, you’re not alone. The most annoying word in American conversation has been revealed: “whatever.”

And get this: it’s the fifth year in a row the nine-letter casual word has taken top ticked-off honors.

According to a Marist poll, 38 percent of Americans can’t stand the word. Taking second-place honors is “like” with 22 percent, then “you know” with 18 percent followed by “just sayin” with 14 percent and “obviously” with 6 percent.

The 38 percent number is up six points from last year.

I hate "ginormous". Whenever I hear someone say it, I want to pop him or her in the teeth.

I can’t stand:

“My bad”

“Disrespect” used as a verb

And, dear God help me, “cray cray”.

BINGO!

I agree.

Agreed.

Don’t know if this has been mentioned yet, but “Whatever!” is the prelude to more domestic disputes gone bad than most other things.

It’s the end to conversation and the only way of continuing is...bad.

I know these are two words, but the overuse of “no problem!” breezily inflected, is starting to irritate me. Often in these cases, service barely merits a “thank you.” Perhaps, I’m an enabler.

What you have described is a “whatnot shelf”. “Whatnots” are the little figurines and stuff you put on your “whatnot shelf”.

As far as “whatever” it is a polite way off telling someone to “f.... off”. It can be a useful word.

My most hated words are “like” “I was like” and “exactly”.

Jay Leno says “exactly” over and over after he has repeated the punch line of his Unfunny jokes several times.
