Pediatricians advise pregnant women, children against drinking raw milk

The American Academy of Pediatrics on Monday warned that pregnant women and children should not drink raw milk and said it supports a nationwide ban on the sale of raw milk because of the danger of bacterial illnesses.

The group’s statement said it supports federal health authorities “in endorsing the consumption of only pasteurized milk and milk products for pregnant women, infants and children.”

The academy also “endorses a ban on the sale of raw or unpasteurized milk and milk products throughout the United States, including the sale of certain raw milk cheeses, such as fresh cheese, soft cheeses and soft-ripened cheeses.”

California is among 30 states that allow the sale of raw milk and one of the few that allows it in grocery stores. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration prohibits the interstate shipment of raw milk for human consumption, though it allows transport of some clearly labeled raw cheeses. …

My son had trouble digesting pasteurized cows milk. I nursed him until he was 17 months but then we bought raw cows milk and then raw goats milk. The later was the best. They delivered it fresh to our door.

I grew up on raw milk, butter churned from raw milk, cottage cheese made from raw milk and I’m 69 years old with no medical problems. I’m so sure it was raw because I was the one that milked the family cows twice a day.

I grew up on raw milk too. That is, until another farmer in the area found that a few of his cows had “bangs”.

My dad went out and bought a home pasteurizer, and that ended my enjoyment of milk.

Pasteurized milk had a “burnt rubber” aftertaste to me, so I quit drinking it then and there.

Why on earth does the .gov think farmers are too stupid to make sure their cows are healthy? The farmers, particularly the small farmers are very careful about the health of their animals - their lives and livelihood depend on it.

And, in rural farming communities, they value their reputations.

Ya, these same “Pediatricians” also advise:
-all pediatric offices to have photos of LGBT “families”
-all boys and girls 11 and up take the HPV vaccine.
-doctors ask now whether you have a gun in the house
-doctors use their “professional judgement” to put you on a list of “mental patients” without your knowledge, in case the state wants to confiscate your guns.

I won’t go into the health benefits of raw milk, anyone can can google it (just ignore everything put out there by the government to get the real story.) Or better yet, read up on how mass produced non-organic dairy farms treat cows, and handle milk by letting bacteria grow, letting it go sour and are lax about sanitary conditions. How are they allowed to do this? Since pasteurization will kill everything, they can have a disgusting production plant, feces infected milk, then its heated, and poof it is “safe” according to the state! Yay! Warning, have a barf bag ready.

This is so bogus. The dairy industry has been after fresh milk farmers for years. The feds invaded an Amish farm with GUNS DRAWN for “selling raw milk across state lines.” Those fascists from Johns Hopkins (hint, Bloomberg went there)think they know how we should live better than we do. Notice the guy doesn’t say “be careful that the farm you are getting the milk from is clean” or give tips to drink it safely. Nope, the “professional” from Johns Hopkins says “it should be banned”.

Our family has been drinking raw milk for years from a local farm up the road from my kids school. They milk their 8 cows twice a day. Sometimes we get there at the right times, and the kids can watch the process. The lady who owns the farm, cleans the teets/udders with iodine before the milk is drawn into a sterile tank with a spout that she dispenses right into the gallon jugs (yes herself). She also makes her own ice cream and yogurt. If she has any leftover milk, she sends it to a local gourmet cheese shop. The state comes to her every month and takes samples for testing, which always come back clear. She loves those cows and talks about them like they are her kids.

Suffice it to say that the lefties in charge are pro-choice only on only one thing, and we all know what that is. They do not want us to have choices on things that could make their cronies an extra buck. Breast milk is “raw” as well are they going to ban that next?

Important note: the AAP is the radical leftist pediatric association. They only care about leftist politics, not children.

The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is the conservative association of pediatricians. They actually care about children.

It is worth it to parents to get a pediatrician who is a member of ACPeds.

Well, the unbalanced LA Times wasn’t going to interview anyone from a pediatrician association not aligned with their agenda.

I drank milk from the cow too. People don’t realize when they pasteurize milk, they kill off the good in it too. Raw milk is the best for you, despite what any nanny state people might say.

I’m convinced they just want us to all die early.

My family friend’s dairy farm milked I think it was about 60 cows twice a day, I used to help all the time, same thing, we’d iodize everything and everything was cleaned tip top every time.

I grew up drinking raw milk from Suzie the cow. Apparently she was healthy because we never caught anything from her, except strong bones.

When we lived in Virginia and my husband was in the USCG, I slipped down some icy steps and had to have my arm x-rayed.

The doctor at the nearby military base said I had the whitest bones he had ever seen and my wrist was only sprained, thank you Suzie!

Bear in mind that this is the AMA and FDA that has tried to make over the counter vitamin & supplement sales illegal for decades. Your health is not their #1 priority.

Here in S. Central PA we had several hundred people get sick this summer from raw milk that came from a well established dairy.

Quote from the article:

“The FDA has stated that it does not have the funds nor bear the responsibility to inspect on a regular basis overseas manufacturers of active pharmaceutical ingredients such as heparin.”

I’m sure they just have your best interests in mind. With this and the forthcoming ‘regulation’ of vitamin supplements they’re working toward with the past weeks ‘talking points’ releases of vitamin bashing articles.

I'm going to have to go with the physicians on this one. Raw milk's safety depends upon the care and sanitary practices of the milker and the dairy. There are >80 severe pathogens carried through the handling of milk, many of them are lethal. Most farmers are not careful when they are milking dozens of cows for raw milk. One or two cows can be managed but when they commingle dozens of milkings the chances of spreading food borne illnesses increases exponentially. I've watched too many farmers haphazardly sterilize their equipment and pass their products on carelessly. The 1966 Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance was put in place and many diseases became infrequent. TB, Brucella, Johne’s Disease, Coxiella, Salmonella, E.coli OH157, and numerous other diseases will become more commonplace if the surveillance of the raw milk is stopped.

This is but one subset of physicians, remember.

And even pasteurized milk presents those possible dangers; sounds like the milk herein described was heading straight for pasteurization.

Sorry. I’ll never go with the government dictating my diet at the point of a gun.

Interesting that Sumatran coffee recovered from cat feces is A-OK, fugu with neurotoxins for sauce is sublime, you can’t get a can of chili without what the government allows in rat droppings, but a drink of milk from the source is treated like a terrorist act.

When is the government going to start sending stormtroopers on breastfeeding patrol? “Alright, baby, step away from the booby. Ma’am, did you sterilize those nipples?”
