GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) Three shoppers were slightly injured when a falling display case caused a scare at the Roosevelt Field Mall.
It happened around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday as the mall was filled with last-minute holiday shoppers.
Police said a suspected shoplifter knocked over a display case in Macys, causing a loud bang. Shoppers thought the sound of the crashing rack was gunshots, which prompted a panic.

How sad that the first thing these people thought was gun shots, that’s the problem with New York, no range time!
Don’t mean to stray from the story, but Roosevelt Field is where Charles Lindbergh took off for his historic non-stop flight to Paris in 1927. I believe the mall is built on the former airfield.
