There was an hour long special a few days ago of the Manning family. There was plenty of video and one was of Archie years after he retired, playing in an Ole Miss old timers game.

He flat out looked like he still could have played. I also had forgotten just how good he was in college. Truly one of the all time greats. What bad luck that he had to play for one of the worst NFL teams ever.

Babe Laufenberg is well rested. He can even do his local TV reports during the time outs.

I wonder if anyone remembers Zeke Bratkowski or George Blanda.

They were both back-up quarterbacks plus Blanda did place kicking. The thing which amazed me about both of them was say if Bart Starr was injured, Zeke would come in off the bench and the Packers would not drop off a bit. Same for Blanda even when he was well up into his 40s.

Jon Kitna is 41. I thought he was retired. It says on Wiki that he is a high school teacher. I’m surprised he would come in to be third string QB.

Kitna is a high school math teacher and I'm willingly to bet his school is out on Christmas break. So Kitna can spend his Christmas vacation doing very little and get a one week NFL paycheck. Not a bad deal.

I remember those guys.

I remember Blanda coming off the bench and winning a string of games for the Raiders back in 1970 when Blanda was in his 40's.

and a free trip to Philly

Geee. For that, I'd come out of retirement. I love going to Pat's for a steak "wit"

Kind of a cool story. He’s back at his HS alma mater (Lincoln High in Tacoma). He’s determined to return the foot ball team to a level of respectibility as they used to be and to energize the run down neighborhood. His son transferred in and plays ball for him too.

OK. Then Angelo's in Fort Worth. Brisket to die for. Ice cold glasses for Shiner Bock . And old Texas ambiance complete with deer and antelope heads on the walls.

That’s a good point about the money. I don’t blame him at all. I guess I’m actually more surprised at the Cowboys bringing him due to his age and the fact that there might be options with more talent than him out there, but it’s one game (unless they go to the playoffs), and it’s very late to bring someone in unfamiliar with the system.

I never thought about his school being on break, but if they went to the playoffs and he played backup, wouldn’t he be missing some school then?

To hear Jerry Jones talk yesterday, supposedly so. I doubt it though.
