No firearms policy at Toby Keith restaurant draws ire of gun rights advocates

A policy at a new restaurant owned by country music star Toby Keith has some gun owners singing the blues.

According to WTTG Fox 5, Keith's new restaurant in Woodbridge, Va., displays a sign on the front door that reads, "NO GUNS PERMITTED."

Virginia is a gun-friendly state, the station reports, and citizens are allowed to openly carry a weapon into a bar or restaurant, as long as it's clearly visible. State law does, however, reportedly prohibit most citizens who are legally carrying a concealed weapon from consuming alcohol, but they are also allowed to go into a bar or restaurant.

Eatery owners are allowed to have a "no firearms" policy, which is the rule at Keith's restaurant.

I don’t listen to modern “rockified” and “Hip Hopped” Pop Country and I avoid chain restaurants like the plaque. Give me old fashioned Country and Bluegrass and a local mom and pop eatery any day.

I wasn’t aware of that until recently. I’m going to miss the music. Oh well, principles are principles and I won’t sacrifice them for anyone.

Any and all pro-US Constitution Americans should never step foot through the door and take the time to let them/him know why.

Yep. It’s his place. He can make the rules. Don’t spend money there, and let him know why.

I live in Woodbridge. For those unfamiliar with these parts, seeing people open carry isn’t that unusual. The first one I saw after I moved here was in Safeway- I came around the corner and there’s this big dude with a Gadsden flag t-shirt and a weapon in a holster. I remember thinking that that was a very positive sign. :-)

I never heard of this incident until just now, when you told us. I appreciate the info. At least here, the perpetrator offed himself, not like the Jihad-Marine now in a wheelchair, who killed 13 of his fellow Americans.

Actually you can be charged with armed criminal trespass, a felony. Depending on the state laws of course.

"Actually you can be charged with armed criminal trespass, a felony."

Not in my State. And even in other states crim trespass must be done intentionally so the State would have to prove you didn't just "accidently" fail to notice the sign.

In Florida they only have to show they have a sign.

Besides it is their property. They have a right to make the rules. Why would you insist on doing business with an anti-gun company?

"Why would you insist on doing business with an anti-gun company?"

It would depend on what brought me there on that particular occasion. And walking through the door doesn't necessarily mean you're going to conduct any business.

I have known about this wonderful law abiding lady for a long time. For women she is often held up as a prime example of why we need conceal and carry.

I am so glad she took a God-Awful tragedy and turned it around to help others and used her grief in a True American Spirit way.

May God help us all to be more like her, so we can save this great country.

Seems simple enough to me.

Be part of the free market. Spend your "eating out" money wherever you please.

Patronize the businesses that you wish to support, and tell 'em why you do.

Don't patronize the the businesses that you don't support, and tell 'em why you don't.

I have every right to wear jeans and a t-shirt, but I can't go into a "dress-code" restaurant that way. Okay, I won't spend my money there.

I have every right to carry a weapon in certain states, but I can't go into Toby's restaurant that way. Okay, I won't spend my money there.

Seems simple enough to me.

> I wonder if the Dixie Chicks are welcome.

Doubtful, given the long-running and bitter feud between Maines and Keith. Remember her T-shirt with "FUTK" on it? I imagine he does too, even though it calmed down in later years. He still refuses to say her name.

You just wander in and then out of restaurants without eating often?

If I'm just there to meet a group of friends or perhaps watch a ball game or MMA fight with friends....yes.
