Why do Narcissists Lie?

Posted on 12/30/2013 1:59:08 PM PST by franky8

Why do Narcissists Lie? Why do narcissists lie? “Because they can”…as the cliché goes. Seriously, many narcissists do lie and they lie constantly. They lie about their education, they lie about their achievements, and they lie about extramarital affairs or what they had for dinner. If someone else is boasting about their 2012 Mercedes, a narcissist will claim (s)he has a 2013 Mercedes just to make her/himself appear more superior. Narcissists may lie for a variety of reasons which include seeking admiration or to hide their flaws or mistakes. They commonly lie to seek attention. In some cases, a person with this type of personality disorder will lie in order to make the person (s)he is lying to question their own sense of reality.

Why do Narcissists Lie? Narcissists use lying and deception as handy tools to get whatever they want. A narcissist will look you right in the eyes, without blinking, and lie right to your face. Narcissists become so skilled at lying that many of them believe that they are telling the truth. Others use constant lying as a way of controlling the people around them.

I’ve heard that Obama is narcissistic. Does he also lie constantly? It seems that he has lied or misled us about a number of things. Interesting to think that the two traits are tied together.

As a general rule, narcissists believe reality should conform to their wishes and desires, not the other way round.

Again a failure of understanding due to lack of proper categories: narcissists don't lie, they bullsh*t. The difference, as set forth in the charming little volume On Bullsh*t by Harry G. Frankfurt is that the liar knows the truth and says the opposite for the purpose of deceiving another, while the bullsh*tter has no regard at all for the truth or falsehood of what he or she is saying or writing, but says whatever is expedient to his or her own interests.

Incidentally, Frankfurt concludes that bullsh*t is a greater enemy of the truth than lying.

An intelligent person is able to stimulate their inner chi by experiencing the world around them. While a dim witted fool is too thick in the skull for that, so they pitch lies as a form of gratification.

“Anybody we know?”

A bigger liar than Hussein: Hillary the Horrible. The beast simply cannot tell the truth.

Did you know under Obama that “narcissism” was removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)? Coincidence??

Politicians have the basic line that they stick to to win elections.

Most of the time they just assume it's true and don't look into things any further. It makes things easier.

Talk about "narcissism" has to consider professions where lying or BS'ing is what people are paid to do, otherwise it's just too simplistic.

When you get so good at lying, you can convince anybody of your lies.

The danger becomes when you believe them yourself.

Narcissists live in the “benefit of a doubt”

The uninformed voters heard the promises, they wanted to believe and nobody would or could convince them otherwise.

Now, they are finding out that they were all lies.
