My first thought from the title was 'which car was the panther driving?"

Perhaps driving a Jaguar?

There used to be a sign on Alligator Alley that said how many panthers were left. I think the number was 48. Each time one was killed, they crossed out the number and put up a new number. I think it was down around 25 last time I saw the sign. I heard it eventually got down around 20.

Three-car crash mentioned in the headline, but nothing about it in the story. And several people injured.
And a jay-walking panther was killed. No concern about all the damage to the people involved in this panther-caused accident?

I don’t buy the number at all. I had one living across the street from me eating wild hogs. Ironically it was also killed by a car.
I also ran across one out in the woods while deer hunting. I think it was driftdiver hunting. scared the heck outta me as the brush was so thick it could be on you before you saw it.

Yeah, that was my first question: “Were all the people OK?”

Did it look like:
It may have looked darker if viewed from a distance.
DD joke, don't bother if it isn't immediately obvious to you.

If they only bred like typical cats we’d be having us some panther hunts.
