TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Blood dripped down the cabinets.
"They were within a minute of killing me," said John Bakker.
But the bloodshed was not caused by people.
"It was like trying to grab a chainsaw that was going wild,"said Bakker.
This was caused by pit bulls. Two to be exact, that viciously ripped into Bakker, as he took out his recycling Thursday afternoon. His next door neighbor had left his back gate open. Two pit bulls were out of control.
"I could see this arm right here was all torn up," said Bakker. "The flap of skull was down where I could see it in my eye."
A neighbor driving by managed to distract the dogs. Just enough time for Bakker to find refuge. Speckles of red inside the home lead to pools of blood in the kitchen.
"I was going to wash some of the blood away," said Bakker. "There was just too much, and I couldn't do that."
The injuries were severe. Bakker was losing blood and lots of it. The dogs bit into his head, ripped off his bicep down to the bone and tore through his fingers. His wife couldn't believe it.
"I kept thinking, I hope he's alive when I get there," said E.J Bakker.
Paramedics rushed John to the hospital, but the dogs were still on the loose. A neighbor called 911. TPD found the dogs in an alley. The pit bulls charged. The officer opened fire killing them.
"It really is a nightmare," said E.J. "I still can't believe it happened."
John tells 9OYS he feels lucky to be alive. His feelings for pit bulls forever changed.
"They're doing what comes natural," said John. "And that's what they were doing, a sneak attack and trying to kill me."

What do you do for exercise when it’s -teens to -twenties air temp for days on end? My little guys feet can’t take it and he stands up like a gopher after about one minute. He won’t go for a walk. I’ve played too many games of fetch the toys I can’t stand it.
We all have cabin fever, but this to shall pass.
I can’t stand damned pit bulls . They are really popular with all the meathead locals around here , oddly resembling one another . I carry a metal softball bat in my car just in case one of them tries to jump my dog . I will beat the damned pit to death in about 2 or 3 strikes if I have to .

Supposedly the aggression starts at a hormonal shift at the year and a quarter to year and a half mark. That’s when the family becomes shocked that little “Snook’ems” is starting to scare them.
You’re the first person I’ve posted with who has a strategy together. Good plan. I watch that video on youtube where we see the dog running from far away and we watch him cross the intersection and we watch him run fast up to a child walking with her grandmother and then you watch him attack the child viciously and I imagine if that’s what was really happening in other pit shooting stories when people say “my dog was wagging its tail when it ran up to that person who shot him! He never hurt the person and the person shot him!” I’ve seen videos of pits running up to someone to attack them, all the while wagging their tail. Are you supposed to let them open your femoral artery to prove their intent before you try to defend yourself because stopping the dog before it slashes you open is “unfair.”

I weigh 220lbs, any dog weighing less than that is going down. When it gets tough, be the apex predator.

I like your style. Love the tagline, too. However, a 40lb pit has been known to kill a horse. Early bites to the legs are efficient in inducing blood loss and shock so that he weakens you a little before he goes true postal. I’ve seen a video where an instructor says you can’t afford ANY bites to the leg - you bleed to much and become a little slower or shocky before you realize it. One woman kept a baby on her hip out of harms way so her two pits coordinated an attack on her thigh to pull her to the ground and then start working on the baby. They’ve also been known to attack faces and detach the lower jaw of children so there is some strategy behind disabling their victim with shock and awe before attempting to kill/eat.
Yepper - dangerous animals no matter how sweet some may be for a whole life, or others for periods before they go carnivore on some kid or adult. A neighbor lady had one and she claimed it was just a big baby. It's gone now because it's "love nips" drew too much blood from too many people. Just sheer luck it didn't go for the gore...
I’m way out in the sticks. I have a half pit half german sheperd male and a pit female. She’s been fixed to sorta curb the agression. Don’t come on my property without an invitation and my dogs are not a problem. I have always owned a big aggressive dog and always will. Not for everybody but a fact of life for me. Signs are posted, gates are closed, my phone number is on the gates.
I can’t imagine keeping these two dogs in an urban area. It would be a 24/7 battle to keep them from eating the neighbors.
buy a metal bat , carry it in your car , carry a softball along with it . That demonstrates the intent to ‘play ball’ not carry a weapon ....
Used to have a small female Doberman and a half Shepperd/half Chow mix. The Dobie was one of the sweet ones - would try to crawl in your lap so she could put her head on your shoulder and sigh. The Chow mix was a brute and did not play well with others. Very protective of his property, but also had a few tense moments with him as he tried to assert his alpha-ness.
That’s a very astute comment. The pit bull owners will rip you apart verbally, in th exact same way they train their dogs to rip you up physically. The worst part is the haranguing you must endure from these hypocrites at how sweet-natured, docile and gentle they are. Sure. Whatever you say. Just keep them on their leash and get the hell away from me.
Get it a Boston Terrier to play with, the kind with more terrier than bulldog in its bloodline. That kind will play chase me, keep-away and tug-of-war for hours on end.
I don’t think my little guy would take kindly to the addition of a Boston Terrier. Sounds like a fun dog, though. :)
