Despite a few warm days here and there, winter is definitely here and it's getting cold outside, which means pets need a little extra consideration. Just as dogs and cats and bunnies can't be left out in the heat of the summer, cold and snowy days pose their own risks to beloved pets.

“... whose owners keep them outside for no apparent reason”.
My Mom had a neighbor that owned a black Lab. He had that poor dog outside 24/7. There was a dog house and it was enclosed by a small fence. The dog froze to death one night. The owner? Well, he just put the poor thing in a garbage bag and shoved it onto the curb for garbage delivery. Despicable!
Had a friend who carded, spun and knitted a sweater made of dog hair. She said it was too warm to wear
I wonder if it would attract fleas-—LOL!
It was beautiful. Silver grey poodle. She cable stitched it and used pewter buttons. ..... And didn’t even bark
Btw have you read the article Rediculous
If you love your pet they should be in your BED, all warm and cozy just like you are! Nothing like snuggling with one furry baby behind your knees and another sharing your pillow! I can’t tell you what I’d like to do to people who leave their dogs to cry outside in freezing or storming weather!
No—I haven’t read that article. Where do I find it?
Was talking about the article at the top of this page. It reads like a junior high essay assignment Wonder how many Real dogs -— dogs without matching outfits/collars and store bought beds — she has owned. Work dogs who herd the livestock instinctively know how to stay warm. The most danger to any animal is not having drinkable water. Farm supply stores carry a variety of inexpensive devices to keep water from freezing good for creatures great and small.
Just came back in from carrying a few loads of fire wood. 18* here. Wore a hoodie no heavy coat necessary ! My boys were with me every step of the way and have now curled up on their individual rocking chairs with cushions on the front porch.
This story reminds me of my mother in law. She let hubby’s beloved best friend out in a blizzard. The little dog was arthritic and very old. M-I-L forgot. The next morning hubby and his dad pried poor doggy up from the sidewalk. :( Hubby was 11 or so.
Moggie?
He sounds like a real jerk. I hope God gets him for that.
My kittehs are inside kittehs and I expect them to sleep with me as a sort of a space heater. Kittehs have an average body temp of 101.5 so I get heat from them.
When Bowser comes inside he always jumps up on my lap and settles in with his feet under him to get them warm.
Missy looks part Mau cat.
Our desert lynx cat Bob will stand at the open door and if there is snow on the ground, he shakes his feet. Sometimes he changes his mind and won’t go out. Once out however, no matter how cold, he’ll stay for up to an hour.
Cute.
On the same subject, I remember when I was about six or seven years old and we lived in Michigan. It was winter and we'd been watching the Ice Capades on TV. I told my Dad I wanted to go outside in my bathing suit since the ladies on TV were in theirs so it was okay. He said he would let me but that I wouldn't want to stay out for very long. My sister and I got into our suits and stepped outside onto the icy and snow covered porch as Dad closed the front door. Sure enough, we weren't out there 30 seconds before we were pounding on the door begging to be let back in!
