Cyndi Lauper proves herself time after time in Tel Aviv
Jerusalem Post ^ | 5/1/14 | David Brinn

Cyndi Lauper let her true colors shine through on Saturday night at the Nokia Arena in Tel Aviv. Foul-mouthed, big-hearted and still quirky as hell after all these years, the bright-red haired, combat boot-wearing 60-year-old entertainer revisited her landmark debut album She's So Unusual, performing it in its entirety upon its 30th anniversary.

Whether spinning like a dervish, climbing onto speaker stacks, roaming out into the audience, or getting down on her knees to sing, Lauper has lost none of her spunky spirit, nor her powerful lung capacity. Her crack band, anchored by bassist William Wittman who performed and acted as engineer and producer on She's So Unusual back in 1983, accurately recaptured the new wave era, replete with echoing rim shots from the drums, cheesy synth riffs from the keyboards and upbeat dance tempos.

Yet another entertainer with some courage and sense.

Why the need to be Foul Mouth? Is that what attracts people to her show?

Even though a lot of 80s artists professed to hate Reagan, their music by and large, reflected the energy and optimism that marked his two terms.

Dunno. I remember her music videos, nothing foul or even suggestive in them. They were funny.

A foul mouth in older people is often a sign of dementia.

It is worth noting that Lauper received requests from some activists to boycott Israel. Those requests were, obviously, ignored.

Its so funny that so many acts from the 80’s:

Duran Duran, Human League, Heaven 17, Depeche Mode, Howard Jones, Thomas Dolby, Men Without Hats, A Flock Of Seagulls

Abandoned the basic style of music that made them great to “experiment”, “ be true to themselves”, bring in the black female background singers, turn to Jazz and RB and who knows what additions. Just shut up and play the style that made you all hits in the beginning and maybe you (most) wouldn’t be remembered as “one hit wonders”.

It gives special satisfaction to see many all these old bands go out and tour and they leave out all their newer crap and play what made us like them in the beginning. Maybe if they would have done that from the start they would have found more success.

Never really got into her, but compared to stagesluts of today Cindy’s a class act.

She is 60?
Wow. I thought she was much younger than that.

Always kind of liked her, and her music, for some strange reason.

Just shut up and play the style that made you all hits in the beginning

Ain't that the truth. It's more than a bit annoying to go to a concert and not know two-thirds of the songs.

How nice for Ms. Lauper and the audience! I’m surprised that she’s 60. I’d have guessed 50.

There are some good ones out there. Megadeth’s frontman Dave Mustaine refuses to tour with openly satanic or anti Christian bands. A few years back an Israeli promoter threw “Cannibal Christ” off the tour because Mustaine said he wouldn’t tour with them.

I’m a big Cyndi Lauper fan. Very early in her career I predicted that she was a certain future star. Bigger than Madonna I was asked by my children. Of course, I answered, she is much the better singer.

To this day I am routinely reminded of this error in judgement by these same children - all grown up now.

But, I still like Cyndii way better than Madonna.

I like her too. She made one movie during her heyday with Jeff Goldblum, she was quirky, delightful and quite fetching :)
