Individuals turned to Twitter following Eminem’s performance on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., to both defend and express outrage over the rapper’s flagrant use of the F-bomb at The Concert for Valor. The Michigan-born rapper riddled his HBO-streamed performance with curse words at the concert aimed at supporting U.S. servicemen and women. “Happy motherf***ing Veterans Day,” Eminem shouted into the microphone. Users on Twitter were quick to react, with some defending the rapper’s use of profanity and others criticizing his word choice.

Who would have thought that that Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl, and Zac Brown, accomplished musicians all, would be so, well, tone-deaf? But how else to explain their choice of song—Creedence Clearwater´s famously anti-war anthem “Fortunate Son”—at the ostensibly pro-military “Concert for Valor” this evening on the National Mall? The song, not to put too fine a point on it, is an anti-war screed, taking shots at "the red white and blue." It was a particularly terrible choice given that Fortunate Son is, moreover, an anti-draft song, and this concert was largely organized to honor those who volunteered to fight in

Washingtonians and visitors seeking to attend Veterans Day ceremonies or to pay their respects to the fallen at Arlington National Cemetery this year will need to allocate extra time in getting there. That's because the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority has cancelled all Blue line rail service on the federal holiday, and it's the only line that services the Arlington National Cemetery Metro train station. The public transportation authority isn't shutting down for mandated safety repairs, which have plagued the agency since a 2009 fatal accident. Rather, service is being cancelled for "a major concert." The concert, billed as "The...

The dictionary defines a troubadour as ”one who composes or sings verses or ballads.” History has been littered with them. Some better than others. PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Calling it a “red-letter day,” a federal judge Thursday approved settlements earmarked for more than 300 victims of the 2003 Station nightclub fire and the mechanism through which payments will be made. The action taken by Senior U.S. District Court Judge Ronald R. Lagueux makes it likely now that the victims of the fourth-deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history will get money from a $176-million settlement fund in a matter of months. But much remains to be done before payments are made. Probate judges have to approve the settlements in the 100 cases of those who died...

He may be a social pariah everywhere else -- but when Kanye West made a surprise appearance at Common's benefit concert last night in Hollywood, he got a hero's welcome. The crowd at the show -- which featured Common, Nas, Ludacris, De La Soul, The Roots, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and more -- just exploded when Kanye rushed out on stage. He stayed for a few songs -- including "Good Life" and "Run This Town" -- and had the crowd going nuts the whole time. Kanye was able to perform without interruption.
