IIRC Steve McQueen was miserable to the end.
He gets no sympathy from me. After he played the race card to get off scot free, I don’t care what happens to him.
I doubt the big guy will give him a pardon, but I think the ‘justice’ department will do a little strong-arming to get him released.

According to this site it really depends on how the kidnapping is classified.
In Simpson's case it doesn't appear it was a felony, so yes -- the State had jurisdiction.
