Can’t even leave bottles of beer out in the snow without worrying about them freezing. It’s brutal out there.

I felt good today...live a little east of Lake Michigan and we were the warmest spot around! Got up to 8 today I think because of the lake....of course the tradeoff was the lake effect snow!

My employer processes natural gas from the Permian Basin.

Prices are starting to climb but...
is still the most economical of the energy choices you have.

Call Consumers and/or DTE and thank them for having a process that hedges natgas into the the underground storage around Big Rapids and even Eaton Rapids.

MichCon, SEMCO, ANR and GLG may be making lots of money but, you folks have it better than most other areas. Thank your lucky stars.

I feel your pain. It got down to 2 degrees last night with a windchill of -20. Couldn’t make it past 18 today.

We’ve got gas logs, but using them for too long makes the heat pump cycle off and the back of the house too cold.

The high up here in Yooperland has been ranging from -4 to -17 and the low from - 20 to -30. Saturday was snow, and 22 to 29 degrees if it was not cleaned off on Saturday it was frozen on Sunday. the poor dog freezes her paws right away, so I ordered boots for the dog. Seen a lot cars in the ditch or broken down during this cold spell. I even received a recorded call telling me school was closed because of the weather and I do not have any children. Yes it is cold! Some of my neighbors have been here all their lives and they cannot remember it being so cold. But ice fishing is great. february is supposed to be our cold month. What will the temps be then!

I had to rescue my pooch last night too. He managed to get to the gate before he realized how cold it was and he didn't want to come back through the snowdrift so I had to wade through it myself and carry him back.

At least you are used to the cold! Try Arkansas at 12 degrees. We are used to maybe high 20’s & 30’s NOT 12!

“Lows on Monday night are expected to fall to near zero in the north, and from 10 to 15 degrees central and south. Tuesday morning wind chills will range from zero to 10 degrees in the southern half of the state, to zero to -10 in the north half.”

The last time it was this cold was in 1938 if records I have found are correct because I wasn’t born yet!

In Western New York, when the temperature drops below zero, the air is always dead calm. Last night we went to -11 with 25 mph wind. Pipes froze, one burst this morning, plumber richer.

But on the other hand, we got about an inch of snow in my town. 20 miles north, in and around Buffalo, they've got 3 feet -- AND the below-zero temps and 25 mph winds.

Pretty happy I don't commute into that mess anymore.

Poor dog. My son had a new furnace w/ac put in for me in 2006. It is higher efficiency and never runs as warm as my old furnaces did.

I've never been cold before but my furnace cannot keep up and runs nonstop. I had a furnace man come in today; he turned it up as high as it will go and it's still cold. The digital thermostat I set at 77 in the daytime; and actual temp is at 71 now (an improvement) but it will get cold tonight, not as bad.

Part of the house is insulated; I have storms on most windows but a few not. It doesn't get weatherized and caulked the way it should. I stuff plastic bags and newspaper to get the worst drafty spots. I don't care how it looks.

I asked the furnace guy if maybe my house is old and drafty and the furnace doesn't have enough BTU's (I meant capacity). He said his was a little higher and maybe I should get one of those little cool space heaters.

It is a lot colder in an added on north room with windows on 3 sides where I have my computer. I've had a sweatshirt and winter coat on all day. Never before. Even when we had 18 below for days in 1979.

The furnace is in too good condition to put in a better one and he said I'd need some extra ductwork.

I'm hoping when temps get in the higher teens and up, the house will retain heat better. Normally I set it at 77 in the day and it always climbs to 76, turn it down to 71 at night.

I have a fireplace and saved a little firewood but am afraid to use it since I've been alone plus chimney needs cleaning and checking. I used to love going to sleep on the couch with a fire going in the fireplace.

Gotta tend my rice pudding. It feels good when I open the oven ;-)

I've had to shovel a path in the backyard for our smallest dog, a rescued Italian Greyhound/Parson cross. Snow in the backyard is several inches over her head. Our biggest dog, a Newfie, has been plowing her own paths. It's hilarious to watch their different reactions. My biggest challenge with the dogs is keeping the steps free of ice and snow (we keep the steps covered with a heavy-duty shower curtain, works great).

I love Michigan, January especially, but school has been canceled again...starting to get a little stir crazy. I want to get all the Christmas trimmings put away and give the house a good cleaning but it's nearly impossible with three boys underfoot. I'm looking forward to the end of the week warm-up.

It’s been very windy here, hard to tell when it isn’t really snowing, and difficult driving this morning, total whiteouts, other vehicles kept going “invisible”.

A curious fellow died one day and found himself waiting in the long line
of judgment. As he stood there he noticed that some souls were allowed
to march right through the pearly gates into Heaven.

Others though, were led over to Satan who threw them into the burning
pit. But every so often, instead of hurling a poor soul into the fire,
Satan would toss a soul off to one side into a small pile.

After watching Satan do this several times, the fellow’s curiosity got
the best of him. So he strolled over and asked Satan what he was doing.

“Excuse me, Prince of Darkness,” he said. “I’m waiting in line for
judgment, but I couldn’t help wondering. Why are you tossing those people
aside instead of flinging them into the Fires of Hell with the others?”

“Oh those . .” Satan groaned. “They’re all from Michigan. They’re still
too cold and wet to burn.”

I have a 10 pound maltese mix too, he has been having a miserable time. I haven’t been walking him for 3 days, just clip the leash on him (it’s a long one) and send him out the door. He limps because the ground is so cold. I was excited to see a +1 degrees this morning. We have been in this house for 30 years, had it built, 2X6 construction and super insulated. Have a LP gas furnace and a woodstove. This is the first winter where we could have a good fire going and the furnace was still turning on occasionally. We are really going through the wood and should have twice as much next year in case we get another inter like this.

We had a pipe burst. It was weird as it was coming from ABOVE the shower so we thought it was an ice dam. Nope. the pipe was just squirting up. Water was coming down like a small water fall inside the linen cupboard. All of this was around 11:30 last night when I went to take a shower.

Fortunately it happened while we were awake and my husband was able to cap it until this morning. The area needs insulation so while the shower is torn apart we’re going to try to get some.

Prepare: Extra pipes, pipe gunk, and tools nearby.

listen to your wife when she says to leave the water dripping)
