What would be the consequences if NFL loses their non profit status? I incline to getting rid of that status.

FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. (multiple votes using multiple internetz devices are allowed!) And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)

And it should end the not-for-profit status of all labor unions too or prohibit them from engaging in any form or racketeering, oh sorry, electioneering. In the case of labor unions, it is difficult to tell the difference.

The NFL is quite for-profit. It’s Business Socialist to give them a tax break others do not get

The NFL league itself is organized as a 501(c)(6), which are defined as — Business Leagues, Chambers of Commerce, Real Estate Boards, etc.

Why should the NFL have their tax status changed by Congress? If they qualify (which they apparently do) and have been organized this way for a long time why should anyone interfere with their organization.

Seems like liberal busybody stuff to me.

Better to end Planned Barrenhood’s tax exempt status.

Could it be the league is non-profit, while the individual teams are for profit?

The tax breaks apply only to the league office, while the NFL’s 32 teams pay taxes on their revenues. The League Office receives funding from the teams to cover activities including office rent, League Office salaries, and game officiating.

The Internal Revenue Service section 501(c)(6) grants the break for those “business leagues, chambers of commerce, real estate boards, boards of trade, or professional football leagues” and other entities that represent a trade or industry.

The tax break has been available for decades. It was enacted to encourage the NFL’s growth. But some policy experts deem it a form of crony capitalism that benefits some of the wealthiest Americans.

No one should be forced to pay a dime to any organization. Allowing unions to extort money is nothing but a racket.
