Elvis Presley would be celebrating his 78th birthday on January 8th, 2013. Some members of Congress have been considering the creation of "Elvis Presley Day" on January 8, commemorating the birthday of the legendary entertainer.

Elvis was born in Tupelo, Miss., and moved to Tennessee at age 13. He is the best-selling solo artist in the history of popular music and one of the most well regarded figures of pop culture, known as the "King of Rock and Roll." He received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36 as was inducted into multiple music halls of fame.

Prescription drug abuse contributed heavily to the deterioration of Presley's health; he died in 1977 at the age of 42.

And this August, on the anniversary of his death, it’ll be the 40th anniversary of the first Ramones concert.

Elvis did give us the USS Arizona Memorial at Pear Harbor. He donated money and wanted that completed.

Thanks, Great story! It is nice thought to think of those folks getting some joy from the impersonator. I’ll bet they really light up when he comes into the room where he performs and starts his show. I’m getting kind of blurry just thinking about it! God bless you.

I didn't know he was related to Martin Van Buren.

Well, first of all, there was something of a language barrier. One of them spoke no English and the other's English was,at best, only fair.Perhaps I worded my post badly...they didn't give me the impression that seeing Graceland was their *only* reason for coming but I did get the sense that it was their main reason. This doesn't surprise me all that much because the *main* reason why I visited Africa was to see the wildlife parks but it wasn't my *only* reason.

The ONLY reason my husband, mother and I went to Kenya (when we lived in Saudi Arabia) was to see the wildlife parks.
Why else would I go there? We had to have a zillion MORE shots than the zillion we needed to live in Saudi Arabia. Oddly enough we also had to have a polio booster for life in the Kingdom.
For Kenya, I can't remember the shots but I DO remeber feeling like a pin cushion again.

One thing I did NOT expect was to be shocked by the color of the Africans. They were called black and they WERE ebony, the color of my computer.

There was an African-American middle aged couple there who MIGHT have thought they were going back to their "roots," but they looked white compared to the native Africans. I hadn't realized, as they probably didn't either, how BLACK native Africans were. No white added whatsoever, ever, no way, NOPE and not a chance. The American couple looked confused. I have to admit, I was really surprised too.

Since I didn't care for Elvis Presley and I have lost all taste for any music but classical (and some occasional salsa) I wouldn't go to Graceland for any musical reason. Is there any other reason to go there?

But that's just me and my likes.
I will admit, though, that no matter the genre of music, there is always and always an exception to the rule. I even liked an occasional hillbilly song; I can't remember which one but I know there was one.
