You know a friendship is close between two animals when their rescuers name them Idgie and Ruth after the two main characters in the movie, “Fried Green Tomatoes.”

What makes this animal friendship really special is the fact that Idgie is a Dachshund and Ruth is a paraplegic cat.

They can fit Ruth for a pair of wheels. Animals with paralyzed rear legs are now able to tool around in little carts.

Paralysis of the back legs can be caused by a traumatic injury (maybe she was hit by a car while out on the streets?), a blood clot (saddle thrombus)which blocks blood flow to the rear regions, a slipped disc, an infection, a congenital defect, etc. Poor kitty.

I love dogs and cats as much as the next guy. I prefer dogs, but I like them all. However, if the cat or dog is paralyzed, I mean dang, I would put it down. I don’t get this wheelchairs for pets, or as one lady I saw near I lived, had a diaper for her dog because he couldn’t walk anymore and just lied there.

It’s touching the dog looks after the cat though.

I’ve seen a weenie dog with a “wheelchair” before. She was smart, happy, and loved life. The only difference between her and any other dog..she had to be strapped in her cart, and a couple times a day her owner would wash her backside with a warm washcloth to help her potty.

She was thoroughly used to the routines of her life, and didn’t seem to be suffering in the slightest. It’s different to keep a suffering animal around, but if they’re happy and the owner is happy to care for them, why not let them live?
