Toy Story and Full Metal Jacket star R. Lee Ermey sparks outrage after posing with bodies of hunted lions

Toy Story and Full Metal Jacket star R. Lee Ermey has sparked outrage after photos of him hunting and killing lions in Africa surfaced on Facebook.

The 69-year-old former US Marine, who voices the soldier Sarge in the animated film and the drill sergeant in Stanley Kubrick’s 1987 movie, can be seen sat behind the carcasses of a lion and lioness with a rifle in his hand.

It is unclear when the photographs were taken but in a 2012 interview he spoke of ‘going for the Big Five’ on a trip to South Africa.

Toy Story and Full Metal Jacket star R. Lee Ermey sparks outrage after posing with bodies of hunted lions R. Lee Ermey starred as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket (Picture: Supplied) Animal rights group Peta has called the actor’s actions arrogant and ‘devoid of honour’.

A spokesman is quoted by the Mirror as saying: ‘It takes no courage to stalk and kill animals. Lions are treated as living targets for the arrogant and ignorant with more money than morals.

‘Most people are appalled at someone like this man gunning down animals for a thrill, a trophy or a souvenir photograph. ‘

Ermey has so far not commented.

The people complaining about this should have to help the lions use prophylactics to help prevent overpopulation of the herd.

Not a whole heck of a lot of eating meat on a lion.

Your typical African village won't turn it down, though. It would be better bush meat than they often get.

You’re correct... lions aren’t endangered. They might be rare in some parts of their origional range, but overall the species is doing fine.

Anyone who is dumb enough to think Ermey would give a flying fudge about their outrage deserves to spend a week getting drilled by the Sarge!

If hunting were just about eating, it’d be a stupid waste of time and money. Since it’s mostly about fun, it’s a great hobby. What could make for better hunting than killing the King of Beasts?

True. Buy the rifle, the tags, the stand, corn to attract, etc. then shoot the deer and cut the meat with pork or beef by a processor who charges so much a pound. I don't mind deer meat chili or deer sausage but if I didn't shoot the animal I will stick with store bought meat.

That being said there are still those who love the meat and save money. There is the added fact that skills are being maintained for what could come in a SHTF situation, both for food and survival.

Great movie, at least as good as Full Metal Jacket.

I once bought a used Dress cover, and the name inside it was 'Owens'. Always thought that was funny.

good to see him going (sport shooting :) after adult loins and enjoying himself,
instead of gunning down helpless grapefruit/watermelons on the shooting range.

Plus, elephants are smart enough to realize what is going on, and sometimes they get their revenge. Plenty of African villages have felt their wrath after one too many culls.

Here are some of the comments from the the “twinkle-toe little c*cksuckers” that are passed off as guys today.

“I hope it costs him his career, boycott his films and anything else he is involved in. Make him a pariah. He is a sorry disgusting excuse for a human being. Lions in the wild are in the decline, those who believe they are not heading for dangerously low numbers are naive.”

“I hope he gets eaten by a lion! Coward”

“Trophy hunting is a horrible practice;only an insane person can justify it”

Just a bunch of butt-hurt losers whose boyfriends didn’t have enough G**damn courtesy to give them a reach-around.

Well, same subject, but different in a lot of ways. I did PI in '66 and when people ask if PI was that bad, I tell 'em, - nope, it was a lot worse.
I wasn't pleased with the 'Nam part of FMJ either. Then again, it was a Hollyweird production.
BTW, if you look closely ... Ermey has his PUC on upside down.
