Here’s one I’ve always liked that few have heard of, it’s basically early garage rock, mid-60’s from Seattle, woefully unappreciated. Compare their sound to The Black Keys of today.

My first band , summer of 1966 ,covered this tune . :-) One of those songs anybody , even 14 year olds like we were , could do halfway decently .
I still have the 45 around here somewhere.
I played it over and over again until it was well grooved.

Did anybody notice how that seagull flew by in the background at around the 1:22 mark of that video? I'm thinking that was totally unscripted but it worked! That seagull was pretty awesome.

His smarmy chuckles - played and recorded perfectly for the subject matter of the song.
I thought the “gurlz version” (what? @ 20 yrs. later?) highlighted an interesting change in styles...
- it was harder, edgier, angrier - though the girl tried to carry off the chuckle, the music was fuller (jmo)
- the videography difference. Notice how the camera becomes part of the song in the later version. It jerks the viewer around, never letting us ‘settle’ on any one scene. I do not like that style. It’s distracting. Unnecessary. Like looking through ADHD eyes.
Though technically ‘cruder’ I suppose, the earlier version had a lighter innocence to it (yes, and a seagull!). It was better...

Wow! Clearly a Motown job, but was it Berry Gordy’s label, or his boys HD&H going roque? By then Motown was in L.A., is that where it was recorded? I gotta say, you do find some gems.

Motown moved to LA in 1972. Sometime afterwards, Pat Boone, of all people, signed with the label.

I didn’t know they were from San Jose, but that song hit hard in Southern California.
