In the near future, you won't even need to know how to fire a rifle to be a crack shot.
At the Consumer Electronic Show, the Austin, Texas-based start-up TrackingPoint showed off its all-new 500 Series AR Smart Rifle, a gun that makes it almost impossible for any user to miss.

TrackingPoint is the inventor of Precision Guided Firearms, a guided shooting system that the company says creates the most accurate guns in the world. The new rifle is the company's first semi-automatic series.
This technology turns even a neophyte into a marksman, at least within a 500-yard range. The user simply "tags" the target, and the gun and ammo do the rest, all for a mere $9,950the starting price for the new series.

Gun Talk Ping List...
Where’s the fun in that?
LOL, Target practice is one of my favorite joys.
Lol...the scope is longer than most ARs.
All the same....WANT!
Takes all the fun out of target shooting, IMO. Heh.
Still... I want one!
LOL...me too!
!
This should make qualifying at the rifle range while in the military a bit easier.
I had a good laugh when someone was telling me they allow Marines to qualify with an ACOG sight. I don’t know if that is true or not, but it would not surprise me.
Wheres the fun in that?

Let’s just say, it depends on circumstances.
In the Canadian army we use a 4 times site. We also have a tough qualifier. We start shooting at 100m, different positions, then 200m, then 300m. Then we start at 400m, and we do a run down. It’s timed, you have to sprint to 300m, get a number of shots off at two different targets, then spring to 200m and from kneeling hit two different targets, then sprint to 100m and do some more. Then we advance to 75m and stand, advance again, fully auto.
Sometimes the conditions we do this in are so bad, that there’s no way anyone would pass, so the guys in the ‘butts’ help out a little lol.
I hear you! ;-)
Picture of a Chevy Volt keeps flashing through my mind.
From an environmental standpoint, think of all the lead you will keep from getting all over the place!
Me too! Thanks for the ping.
Get out the ol' jumper cables.
Heh. What’s the fun if you can’t waste all that money on errant, non 8-9-10-ring ammo. (Just kidding)
Not.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Amazing.
That's actually the article's title.
Translation:
"Now there is a gun that let us you shoot."
I guess you’d keep spare batteries in a shirt/coat pocket, to keep them warm, and rotate them in very cold weather. That’s a definite problem in sub-freezing/zero weather.
So it’s good for sniper work. Send 50 solders with those into a Chicago meltdown. Dead men walking.
How useful is it in a 100 yard or less firefight? Tactical house to house warfare?
When the SHTF, Appleseed type marksmanship will prevail.
Still, if someone would buy it for me...........
