Fearing 49ers Fans, Seahawks Ban NFC Championship Ticket Sales To Californians
CBS SF ^ | January 12, 2014 | Brandon Mercer

Posted on 01/13/2014 6:18:25 AM PST by C19fan

Assuming the 49ers win on Sunday, fans wanting to cheer on the Niners in the January 19th NFC Championship Game in Seattle will not be able to buy tickets through the Seahawks, as the team is restricting sales to only zip codes in Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Hawaii, and parts of Canada. Tickets go on sale Monday, and California residents can still purchase tickets through the secondary ticket market like NFL Ticket Exchange, Stub Hub and others, or with a friend who has a credit card billed to an address in the Pacific Northwest.

Wouldn’t have happened in New Orleans. Saints were better than both Panthers and ‘49’ers. Ahhh the curse of the #6 seed.

From the Denver Post:

Tickets will be available at all Ticketmaster locations by calling 1-800-745-3000 or by visiting ticketmaster.com. Tickets will be available only to those with a billing address in the Rocky Mountain states, including Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, South Dakota and Western Kansas.

Pretty crazy for a 49er fan to show up at Seattle.

they will be there... Seattle is so close to the Bay Area... there were a lot of Niner fans in Charlotte... i even know some who flew out there for yesterday's game... sheesh--Bay Area to Seattle is a roadtrip for some... flying is even easier...

let's go NINERS!

It was pretty sad to hear all the cheering for SF at Carolina’s home stadium. What an embarrassment for the Panthers.

i am working and living in Fayetteville, NC... i have yet to meet a bonafide Panthers fan... with Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point, there is a big military presence in NC... so people are loyal to their own home teams... in addition, with the older established teams like the Red Skins, Saints and Buccaneers, it seems to me that the Panthers are more of a secondary favorite team around here... the people i work with are mainly Red Skins fans... they are people who have been in NC forever... i live in a household of Niner fans as we are from the Bay Area... and i work with another Niner fan... she was born in the Bay Area...

This isn’t new. In the NHL both the Blues and the Predators began making efforts earlier this year to keep Blackhawk fans away. Watching the games on TV they don’t appear to have been successful.

You buy tickets at several hundred dollars a pop, purchase
roundtrip airline tickets for a few hundred $ a piece, and
finally, you reserve an over priced room, not to mention
food. You do all of this so you can engage in behavior that
could get yourself bounced from the game or even arrested.
Who does this? Maybe a few.......but not enough to create this
kind of a policy. Doesn’t pass the smell test.

They are limiting ticket sales to the geographical area that the fan base lives in to discourage scalping.

And Hawaii and Alaska? Bwahaha. I guarantee more Seahawks fans live in California than any of the states they are selling to - with the exception of Washington.

No, what they are doing is what libs typically do and like what libs do this is a trashy and obvious move. Somehow I hope both teams lose.

I think it is because Charlotte is a boom town that has tripled in size in the last 20 years. My brother lives there and tells me everyone is from somewhere else. There are bars there where Buffalo Bills fans go to watch the game because there are so many Buffalo transplants in the area. I am sure there are many Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati fans there too. All the rust belt cities that have lost population in the last two decades did not just move to Florida, AZ and NV.

Watch a Red Sox/Rays or Yankees/Rays game at Tropicana Field. It is always more fans supporting the visiting team than the Rays. This is especially true in September if the Sox or Yankees are competing for the AL East and the Rays are out of it.

Camden Yards actually raises the price for Red Sox games because of the Southwest $49 one way fares out of Manchester, Providence and Boston to Baltimore. People fly to Baltimore, watch the weekend series and the fly home on Sunday afternoon. You can still buy a $20 ticket in the upper deck. This year will be another season where Sox tickets at Fenway will be impossible to get.

We live in central Virginia. We’ve attended several Panthers games and been in the middle of the celebrations in the street.

Every team does the same thing if they think they can sell all the tickets to locals. No big deal.
