Loris, SC. A Loris woman was given a jail sentence of 20 days and given credit for the time she previously served after she pleaded guilty in connection with her two children being found alone in a hotel room with a dead man and drugs, according to authorities.

Belonda Renee Davis, 31, of Loris pleaded guilty to cruelty to children and was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Steven John to 20 days in jail, according to the Horry County Public Index. Davis was given credit for the time she’s previously served and ordered to comply with all orders from the S.C. Department of Social Services and pay court costs.

Davis was taken into custody following her plea on Thursday and remains jailed at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, according to jail records.

In September, Davis was arrested on the cruelty charge and two counts of unlawful neglect of a child, which were dismissed following her plea, according to court records.

Horry County police and EMS responded at 7 a.m. Sept. 18 to the Carolina Inn Hotel at 312 N. U.S. 701, where they found 11- and 13-year-old girls in a room, police said.

Police said Paul Tebeau, 21, of Loris was found dead inside the room with the children.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick said at the time of the incident that an autopsy was performed on Tebeau, but a cause of death was not determined pending the outcome of toxicology report. He estimated Tebeau died about an hour before his body was found.

Officers found marijuana, a crack pipe, what appeared to be Sudafed, and unidentified white pills in a cigarette pack on the table next to the man, according to the report. Davis told police that Tebeau had been smoking marijuana the night before, but she did not see him take any other drugs.

Officers found numerous prescription bottles with Davis’ name on them in the room, according to the report. A worker with the state Department of Social Services was contacted by police to take the children into emergency protective custody.

At the time of the incident, Davis was taken into custody for allowing the children to be around the drugs and in an unsafe environment, according to the report.

A review of the photographic evidence demonstrates that the perp is guilty. Open and shut case.

No need to look. You have been warned.

Belonda . . . I never would've guessed.

Looks like she got to the table without any trouble.

Every time I see a story like this, I get very frustrated.

Spring is coming up, and I could use a couple of kids that age to work in the garden. They'd have to sleep in the shop/barn, but I would feed them well, and keep them away from drugs and dead men.

What a waste of human potential (and free garden labor).

Anybody doubt that if it had been the children’s dad instead of the mom, the sentence would have been a LOT longer than 20 days (more like YEARS)? Along with the children being taken permanently away?

I just hope the kids are not permanently damaged.

If only drugs were legal...blah blah blah. Victimless crime blah blah blah.

You just reminded me of several good friends of mine-all of whom were found dead in their beds by their parents.
All had succumbed to a particularly nasty heroin 'cocktail' -another popular fad in my younger days (heroin + Glutethimide (Doriden) )

All had begun their drug use smoking pot in school and as peer pressure and just plain curiosity got the worst of them-they all died before they reached twenty-one and probably their last conscious dreams were about what a fabulous high they had.

We go through Loris with the RV on the way to our fav campground. The kids call it "Bad Town". It's so bad I've even taken pics of the blight from the truck...

I can imagine about what that motel in

Loris looks like...the clerk behind glass.

Not a Marriott.
