Those guys are going to sweat their asses off...

The players, not Gretzky or Scully. Well, maybe them too.

If the Kings were playing today, they certainly would be. It’s a very sunny and arid 82 degrees today in LA/OC Counties.

I love the Winter Classic, probably my favorite regular season game of the year. But all these other outdoor games just don’t interest me, and kind of made the Winter Classic less interesting. Serious lily gilding.

In the 50's, my kid buds and I used to skate and "play hockey" on any number of swamps wetlands (later in the year used to catch frogs).

In the 60's my "College" had an outdoor rink for the Hockey Team.

In the Seventies, while driving all over (northern) Ontario, there were plenty of outdoor rinks in the many small towns.

The NHL Winter Classic makes perfect sense.

1 outdoor game a year to celebrate the heritage and just for kicks makes sense. 6 outdoor games 60 days is a shtick and kind of boring.

Outdoor games where the temp is >32F makes no sense.

Too warm in SoCal for outdoor hockey. Guarantee the ice will be subpar at best because of the temperatures.

I'm surprised the Dodgers are allowing this in their stadium. They must be getting pretty good rent money from the NHL.

You just knew after the very positive response to the first Buffalo-Pittsburgh game that they were going to squeeze the hell out of the concept. They stuck to 1 game per year for a brief time, but have gone nuts recently.

One of my vendors, years ago, had a Gretzky uniform, signed and framed. He said that his business owners insurance and general insurance wouldn’t cover it. He had to have it put on a rider. Said it was worth over 5 grand. This was in like the late 80’s.

I reckon he doesn’t sign many jerseys.

(Not a hockey fan, so no idea of the validity of this, hell it could have been a knock off, I hear that’s a very common thing in sports collectables.)

The other jerseys he showed off to me in his office were some blackhawks famous player (sorry, even from Chicago, I know nothing of hockey, but I guess it was very rare), Dave Kingman (of all people), Bill Buckner, Pete Rose, and Walter Payton.

A pretty nice collection I reckon (if they were real).
