The futuristic screens installed in the Chinese capital usually advertize tourist destinations, but as the season's first wave of extremely dangerous smog hit - residents donned air masks and left their homes to watch the only place where the sun would hail over the horizon that morning.
Commuters across Beijing found themselves cloaked in a thick, gray haze on Thursday as air pollution monitors issued a severe air warning and ordered the elderly and school children to stay indoors until the quality improved.
The air took on an acrid odor, and many of the city's commuters wore industrial strength face masks as they hurried to work.

The world has gotten a lot more complicated. I'm not saying all the laws are necessary, but certainly the rise in technology has accounted for many of the laws.

I'm not saying there isn't room to cut regs, and to simplify them. But it's not going to make a difference in competition with foreign countries like China. You could eliminate every reg and every tax and the wage differential with China is still so high, that they would continue to destroy our industries if we don't wise up and restore the trade import tariffs.
Not only would it not make us competitive, but frankly, we don't want to deregulate entirely and China's pollution problem is a classic example of why not. On the other hand, we don't want to let China destroy our industries or dictate our wages either. Hence we need to raise import tariffs.
Fact is I am not lying. Didn’t say a word about living standards which did improve due to manufacturing improvement and medical breakthroughs. Not pollution control. Since the EPA didn’t exist I certainly couldn’t argue that it saved the day. So that takes care of your first three nonsensical lines. It seems to me a larger population using those advances and concentrating large portions of the population in urban areas led to significant pollution in those areas. This was addressed input stream control and the problem was solved. As to your last paragraph, the folks on this forum know what a global warming proponent I am. You posts on this thread are bombastic and mean sprited. Improve them.

a private business is accountable to customers, must provide a quality product to stay in business and must build a good name . that requires extremely hard work, long hours and talent and no harm to anyone.

Right now one of those checks is that our elected representatives need to correct course, raise the import tariffs, and lower the income taxes.

My god is God. And I'd appreciate it if you learned to argue logic instead of personal attacks.
I agree the EPA has overstepped it's bounds. But the nation elected an idiot who said he'd do something about global warming. Again you need checks and balances. The EPA has insufficient judicial oversight because of the way Congress set it up with administrative courts. That needs to be fixed. But there are many things the EPA did that were good, and we don't need to rid the country of all environmental laws and end up polluted like China. We need to reign in the EPA and this President who is not abiding by the laws and return them to their original purpose.

Again with the personal attacks. I have started my own business. And ran it for 3 years and grew it to over a $1 million dollars in annual revenue. And I was shut down by a government bureaucrat. Plus I've been in corporate management where I oversaw the development of many new business lines and product ideas.

Again with the personal attacks. I don't think business is evil at all. I think a small portion of business owners are evil and will pollute. And we've seen that in our country. And the EPA has helped put preventative measures in place.
Why is China so polluted? It's not because all business managers in China have long term vision and always do what's best for the country.
