Gun Manufacturers Smith & Wesson have unleashed their newest revolver: a monster .460 calibre handgun which they say is 'great for a back-up gun, or for hunting'. Named the 'Backpack Cannon', the gun was unveiled in Las Vegas on Monday at the Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade show, the largest gun show in the U.S., which around 60,000 gun fans attend every year. The cannon features a three-inch barrel, high visibility sights and synthetic shock absorber on the rear of the handle, as well as a massive chamber to fit the gigantic .460 calibre rounds, which are some of the biggest and most powerful bullets in the world.

Sigh.

LOL, I know - that was a head-shaker. So much power in those bullets!

Yeah, you know, a “backup gun” in case your M155 breaks down.

The Backpack Cannon comes with a shock absorbing handle, making it easier to fire repeatedly.

I especially enjoyed the caption to the Dirty Harry photo.

Clint Eastwood in the 1973 film 'Dirty Harry', brandishing his infamous Smith & Wesson .375 calibre hand gun.

It would be interesting to go thru this piece and log all the inaccuracies.

But not interesting enough for me to do it.

They already make a great backpack cannon, the 329, a 24.5 oz Scandium 4” 44 magnum. Perfect. Can easily shoot 6 rounds...’cause that’s all you’ll get to shoot.

Yes, you are right.
That short barrel is wasting alot of energy. Another couple inches would give it several hundred more pounds of energy. I’ll bet that thing shoots out a flame three feet. Thats very cool to watch but the flame is all wasted energy.
I am sure S&W has a longer barrel in the works, just waiting on marketing to release it.

Guess Clint Eastwood will have to do a new set of movies with this new cannon since the 44 is no longer the big cannon on the block!!!

Amen. And the .38sp ammo puts much less stress on the frame, meaning your .357 will probably last longer than it might if you always were using full-strength rounds.
