This is old. I think I saw it last year, but still pretty cool. No way around the slideshow, so spare me.

Some I don't agree with, and some are missing. But who am I?

I still think it's hard to match this:

My second favorite - not because it's all that great of a photo, but just that it shows that the truly great are always competitive. At any age.

I am not going to go through the list but there was a picture taken over a hundred years ago which has widely been considered the greatest sports photo ever.

It is of Ty Cobb sliding into 3rd and just beating the tag.

I suspect it is not in this list.

Yup...one of the ones I feel should be WAY up there, yet is not included at all.

Yogi is in two of them: Don Larsen’s perfect game and Jackie Robinson’s steal of home. Always second fiddle. But, a marvelous one.

Ernest Hemingway would be disappointed except, perhaps, for the absence of bull fighting.

Good picture. But I never considered golf a sport.

Jack used to whip the tennis pro at Lost Tree on his grass tennis court regularly. Is tennis a sport?

There’s so many great pictures but I think there’s a better one than Turcotte riding Secretariat at the Belmont (#72). It’s of him looking back, you could see how far back the other horses were. I guess with photographers, like real estate, it’s location, location, location.

I am not sure the criteria for "best" but it seems they have three sets of best:

1) Pictures of great moments.
2) Pictures that look great (the fish in a fish).
3) PC/sympathy shots (the 3' tall HS football player, the legless swimmer etc.)

Some comments:

1) Where is Bobby Thompson's HR with Ralph Branca's back turned so we see the big #13?
2) Clay standing over Liston gets my vote as # 1.
3) Where is Kirk Gibson's walk off HR?
4) Where is Maz, coming home after his home run?
5) Where is Lou Gehrig wiping the tears from his eyes? (they chose a lesser photo, IMHO)
6) Where are the Russian's celebrating their 'victory' over team USA?
7) Where is Villanova, a #14 seed winning the NCAA's?
8) Where is John Wooden?

Some good shots, yes, but over all too many better shots are missing.

Here's my nominee for best picture of 2012.

Ahhh...Hack. Spring practice can't come soon enough.
