In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

aphesis \ AF-uh-sis \ , noun
Historical Linguistics . the disappearance or loss of an unstressed initial vowel or syllable, as in the formation of the word slant from aslant.

Example sentences:
In particular, phrases forming a solid continuous unit and having only one main stress can become subjected to aphesis and other phonetic changes.
---Mikko Luukko, Grammatical Variation in Neo-Assyrian, 2004

In other cases we witness aphaeresis, or rather aphesis , the loss of initial segments in the MAGYwords…
--- György Busztin, The Legacy of the Barang People, 2006

Etymology:
Aphesis is derived from the Greek word of the same spelling meaning "a letting go."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

That is a surprise. Perhaps she has an assistant that posted it in her name?

3 degrees earlier when I went out, enough exercise to run in and out to the car in this kind of weather.

Obama and his minions seem
To think aphesis and such
Make it cool to screw up
Everything that they touch

As long as they say ‘fridge
For the place that you keep
The burger-all you can afford-
And only if it is dirt cheap...

Those with phones from Obama
Have those EBT cards, too-
They can buy enough to be obese-
Broke and healthy is for you...

I’m tracking a customer who absconded, owing my compadre money-not much, but these days anything is too much-the plumbing sub thought the customer “seemed honest”, and so blew off the up front money! I asked XXX to please remind everyone that money up front is policy, period...

Thank you!

The economy is so bad that it is an exercise in futility to do that-my compadre and I have both done it, and it ultimately costs more than what you are owed.

There are not many people living in this area, and everyone gossips-no one wants to be on the side of a collector, whether it is a bank or a plumber, not even a constable-it is better to just contact the customer discreetly, make any payment arrangements you can and have an understanding that if you do work for them again, it is cash only-that way everyone saves face and the contractor keeps goodwill-without it, no one works...

She was most recently in American Hustle, which is one of the movies up for awards, which is about the ABSCAM scandals from the late 70s i guess it was? It was a good movie, we saw it over Christmas, as a family.

Night at the Museum is the only thing I’ve ever seen her in-but it would be nice to have the money for those fancy dresses, and a place to go in them...

But that’s not right. People must pay for services rendered. I think you need a contractor pimp!

It’s set in Ireland and is a lovely film to watch for the scenery and brogues alone.

I guess a contractor pimp could threaten a beatdown with a framing hammer, or to shoot you with a pneumatic nailer...

Nothing about that broad surprises me-only a truly callous and hateful person laughs at someone’s disability-and it makes me madder than just about anything else...

No one should be surprised that someone who wants to make infanticide on demand a woman’s “right” would make sport of a paraplegic. This is the heroic mother who dumped her kids on her husband because it wasn’t a good time for her...
