IMHO the trend for over-50 divorces now is likely due to increased stress around end of life care, social security, healthcare, and not having enough money...these I’d bet started to uptrend 5 yrs ago...these folks haven’t had any dinnertime arguments and haven’t talked too much about this until now and it used to be one was able to retire...not anymore...I imagine the stress has greatly increased.

They’re not getting divorced. Well not divorced personally but divorced legally because of the Marxist healthcare terrorist act aka Obamacare that punishes those who are married in an attempt to destroy the American family amongst other things. The Captain has Parkinsons and they didn’t want to get wiped out financially.

“The Captain has Parkinsons and they didn’t want to get wiped out financially.”

Very sad. My prayers to their family.

How does getting divorced help these rich people? I doubt it has anything to do with money.

How hilarious it will be when the first gay couple has to make this choice: to divorce and remain financially solvent or to stay "married" and remain politically correct?

Decisions, decisions.

I don’t know the figures but I would bet divorce is rare for people who have been married for over 40 years.

I used to work with a guy who was in the glee club with Tennille at Auburn.

It’s a legality about splitting assets or something. They’re both in their 70s and have been married a very long time. Even if they’re tired of each other, I can’t see Toni Tenille divorcing her husband of 40 years when he gets sick. Unless she has a new boyfriend on the side, but there’s been no indication of that in any of the articles. It appears to be a financial decision having to do with Arizona law.

My dad loved them growing up. He told me about the Captain and Tennille Show ... forty years. Sad.

I thought they were both dead.

How did you learn that they were dead? Or are you using the word 'thought' loosely?

Well that’s better. Both in their seventies and they had to resort to that. I wish I could vent ....

Toni Toni Toni. I remember that concert in Seattle. Our eyes met, and the passion sizzled like a thousand lightning bolts! But, it could never be then, and it can never be now. Me....well....I have my wife now. And you....well.....you still have your eyesight and I’ve aged like moldy cheese. I know that you thought this was our last chance to see if that spark could still fire, but I’m afraid the gap on our spark plug of love is just too wide now. We’ll always have that moment in Seattle. I was the guy in the jeans and the orange shirt in row 17. Brown hair. Yelling “Muskrat Love, Baby!”

Thanks for the explanation of WHY they are getting a divorce.

This topic has been posted on FR several times over the last couple of days and this was the first time I’ve decided to read what it’s all about.

There is also a trend of couples in their 50s and older who love each other and live together, who decide NOT to marry specifically because of the tax penalties they can avoid.

A couple can be married in the eyes of the law, but not married in God’s eyes because that means nothing to them. My brother and his wife married at city hall.

What we need is an arrangement the other way around if we choose - to be married in God’s eyes (typically in a church), but not have the union recognized by the government.
