A lot of ancient societies were brutal, look at Sparta for crying out loud!
/johnny
The Greeks and Romans were likely as brutal.
Don’t want a kid? Just “expose it” by abandoning it to die or be picked up and purposely crippled or worse.
So do DEMOCRATS...
OK...but how do we know that they didn’t just develop a belief that when a child dies, it means that the gods have taken him in exchange for some favor or blessing? Perhaps a favor that the parent hasn’t even requested?
Then it would, or at least might, be natural for the parent to deal with the child as if he were a sacrifice. Or at least richer parents who can afford to do so.
I am....not convinced.
Carthaginians were Phoenicians but a colony.
"It was here.....The Carthaginians defending the city were attacked by three Roman legions. The Carthaginians were proud and brave but they couldn't hold. They were massacred. Arab women stripped them of their tunics and their swords and lances. The soldiers lay naked in the sun...........Two thousand years ago. I was here."
There was a miniseries on Troy where the invading King sacrificed his own young daughter on an altar in front of his troops, for good fortune in battle.
This is news? I thought this had been researched years ago, demonstrating with physical evidence what contemporaneous writers recorded.
Our society sacrifices children to rap music.
Carthago Delenda Est.
The Cartheginians, like the Aztecs, got what they deserved. Everyone moans about the beatdown that the Spanish Conquistadors dealt the Aztecs but that is only because the modern mind cannot conceive the depravity of the Aztec empire. The cities of Carthage and Tenochtitlan were evil and needed to be destroyed. Western civilization is the heir of the Romans and of the Spanish Conquistadors.
Sacrifice of children was pretty common, apparently. It happened in Israel, too. But maybe the common element is the Phoenicians.
And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech
Lev 18:21 (KJV)
Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter, 21 That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them?
Ezek 16:20-21 (KJV)
Bookmarked.
Didn’t the Spartans expose their disabled newborns to the elements and wildlife?
Carthage was a civilzation of evil. God may very well have used the Romans to do His will: killing them off, and salting the ground so that Carthage could never return.
They worshiped Baal, and Hanibal, the general that so terrified the Romans, his name means “Beloved of Baal”.
Sort of like abortion excpet now its for convenience, not divine favor.
Horrible people deserved to be wiped by Rome.
