Good for the girl. It’s a shame she has an idiot for a father.

He’s setting up for the payday.

“”I don’t think she should have been allowed at 16 to go up there and perform that type of jump, no matter what I say or she says, she shouldn’t have been allowed,” Joe Wethington said at the news conference. “I find it very hard to believe that the rules and regulations in Oklahoma are that lax. I think there is a flaw there somewhere, and I don’t think it’s through the state of Oklahoma. I think it’s the company. I’m not sure.””

“, said the girl hurt her liver and broke her pelvis, lumbar spine in her lower back, a shoulder blade and several ribs. She also has a broken tooth.”

good condition can be a relative term

Life is too precious to risk it for frivolous reasons. Life and limb should only be put on the line when faced with extreme circumstances such as saving a life or defending freedom!

She’s from Texas, but was too young to jump there, so she and her father drove to OK. They took a six hour basic parachuting class (static line). Because of the load balance being what it was... the father was asked to jump first. He did. The daughter jumped next. Apparently, a third jumper refused to jump. There was a jumpmaster, that was obligated to ride back down with the no go jumper. He did.

The injured jumper had a partial malfunction of some kind. The report I heard said she was spinning and couldn’t cut away. I don’t know why or if she even tried. Perhaps she was wrapped up in the canopy or had something close to a horseshoe malfunction where part of the canopy was open and part of it was somehow still attached to her body, or the suspension lines were attached to her body in such a way as to not allow the canopy to open properly.

She impacted the ground and lived. Often in a case where the jumper lives, several factors come into play- like, landing in grass or a plowed field, enough of an open canopy to slow the fall rate to a survivable speed, landing in such a way so that the body distributes the force across the entire body or most of the body, resilient spirit, quick medical treatment, etc. She’s very lucky. The parents were already talking about suing the facility.

An amazing quote in my opinion. Absolutely mind-boggling!

this "shouldn't have been allowed" is just the lamest excuse...the father and the mother both knew what the jump was....they knew the dangers...they allowed and enabled their dtr to try it....

something went wrong....it happens.....

but now in retrospect, he thinks it was a bad idea for that dang skyjumping school to come drag their dtr out of the house and FORCE her to jump from a plane...../sarcasm/

I agree, only I think the father is looking for a major payday.

It's obvious that the parents are to blame as they have the last say as to what their children can & can't do, unless of course it is abortion I guess.

Here is what the father said for those that didn't read the article.

"I don't think she should have been allowed at 16 to go up there and perform that type of jump, no matter what I say or she says, she shouldn't have been allowed," Joe Wethington said at the news conference. "I find it very hard to believe that the rules and regulations in Oklahoma are that lax. I think there is a flaw there somewhere, and I don't think it's through the state of Oklahoma. I think it's the company. I'm not sure."

What kind of idiotic parent allows this?? He is much more responsible for this than the company. The company wouldn’t have entered into it if the father had been a real parent and just said no.

You are right - ready to sue.

I don’t think he is idiotic for allowing it. I’m glad my dad allowed me and my brothers to race moto-x when we were kids. But sometimes things go wrong and it is not anyone’s fault. This guy is sue happy and wants to stop everybody else from ever experiencing anything that might hurt their kid.

Parachuting is fun, and good for the attitude.
